Chapter 3
Dawnfire swished his tail impatiently as they landed next to their camp spot.
‘Someone’s here.’ He thought to Crymson. Crymson nodded and dismounted cautiously.
“Hello?” She called into the shadows of the trees. There was a small whimper and then a girl who looked Crymson’s age emerged from the shadows. Her long dark brown hair fell down to the middle of her back in soft waves. The girl met Crymson’s stare with hardened bright blue eyes. Crymson took a step toward her.
“Who are you?” She asked warily.
“Everya. I’m on your side, no worries.” The girl said proudly, a touch of coldness and bitterness in her voice.
“I don’t have any sides. What are you doing here anyway?” Crymson responded glancing at Dawnfire, who shifted uncomfortably.
“Hmph. Everyone has sides.” Everya said, “I came to help you, you’re going to Edenmar, right?”
“Yes.”
“So am I; and I know how to slip pass the Council’s watch. You’ve obviously stirred up some trouble.”
“We don’t need help.” Crymson retorted.
Crymson stared at Everya. They locked eyes and held it, wondering who would give in. Everya’s blue eyes stared icily back. Crymson knew she was not going to win this.
“Fine, you can come, but you’re not riding Dawnfire.” Crymson said, smiling a little; Everya didn’t seem to have any way of transportation with her.
“Fair enough, I have my own.” Everya whistled.
“You have a dragon?” Crymson asked a little shocked.
“Gods no.” Everya said, “they’re too…noticeable.” Everya smirked and looked over Dawnfire who growled low in his throat. Everya didn’t seem phased instead she whistled softly. There was crashing in the underbrush. Crymson craned her neck to see what was coming. A tall black horse trotted out. It’s glossy coat shone eerily in the night. There were two wings near the withers and it had milky white eyes. Everya reached out and patted the horses neck.
“This is Rumour.” Everya said smiling at the horse. Crymson looked at Dawnfire who was watching the pair with suspicion. Everya turned back to them. “I think we should leave tonight, the Council will be looking for us. They’ll check here.”
“We were going to.” Crymson said, annoyed. Everya didn’t notice, “Good let’s go then.”
Crymson muttered something and then quickly gathered her stuff. Everya disappeared in the trees and came back with the tack for her flying horse and some saddlebags.
