That day, many years before, Aragorn and Elrond, or great Numenor The host of the Elf Lords stood tall on the plain But not yet as tall as the valiant Edain Their hosts were mighty, their array was bright, At their approach all evil should take flight Unified by a hate for the folk of Morgoth Hate of warg, of Balrog and the filthy Glamhoth There stood Hurin Thalion, and Huor the tall, And Halmir of Brethil ere his fall, Beside Fingon and Turgon and the Sons of Feanor And even the kindred of dwarves from their hidden doors. The Thrall King of middle earth sent forth his slaves, To taunt the Eldar and Edain to their dusty graves, They suceeded, and the hosts leaped forth. To reclaim their home, the once beautiful middle earth. By treachery and cunning, the host was utterly beaten, The memory of their glory, however, is not fleeting, Yet one thing was salvaged from this day of great sorrow, Twas the strength of Gondolin to fight for the morrow The men of Dor Lomin made a steady retreat, pulling back to Serech, feet by feet. there they held, and stood to the end The host of Gondolin's withdrawal to defend They fought like lions, Rivil's waters they bridged With orc bodies, as numerous as midges, They stood like a rock amidst a strong tide, The powers of Angband alone they defied. At the fall of the sixth day, so too did the shield of Turgon that day, Huor slain on the field, and beside fell the valiant ,dead, one by one And left Hurin Thalion, their leader alone A berserker of old he stood alone, Stronger, mightier , unconquered like the stone, He took up an axe and smote till his foe Took him by numbers and finished this tale of woe. Thus the Nirnaeth was finished, The war was complete The hill of Tears, upon which no feet, of creature of Morgoth may tread, The new hallowed earth gives them nought but dread. some comments would not go amiss everyone!!!! |

Does anyone have anything to say about this one? cos I did like writing this one most of all I think. I liked the last stand of the Men of Dor Lomin anyways, so the chance to write a poem on it is really nice. |
