Well, at the advice of potr, I have started writing small stories for my RP character Jateyani Ralkaien. As the RP takes place when he's twenty, I'm going to be telling about some of his early years. These aren't meant to be full length stories, just small snippets of his life. Comments are nice, suggestions on writing improvement is also nice. =)

The smell of hay filled the boy's nostrils as he stepped into the stables. Casting a furtive glance behind him, the boy slipped into an empty stall and burrowed into the hay. Silence reigned in the stable, broken by an occasional whicker or stamp of a hoof. The boy's sense of hearing grew keener, no longer able to rely on sight. A slow, soft creak caught his attention. Holding this breath, the boy could hear his heart beating quickly in his ears. Thud-thud. Thud-thud. Quicker it came as footsteps moved closer to his hiding place.
"Jateyani?" A high pitched whisper seemed to resonate in the air. "Jateyani? I know you're here!"
Jate continued to hide, scarcely daring to breathe. A change in the light, a shadow across the stall, and he knew it was time. With a shout, Jate leapt out of the straw. Debris flew everywhere as he ran towards a small girl, who fled before him with a delighted grin. The two ran past rows of bored-looking horses, out the doors, past coops of poultry and pastures of livestock, and pounded along the dirt packed road. Panting, the girl flung herself at a stately oak, swerving just in time to avoid Jate's outstretched hand.
"I won, I won!" The girl cried triumphantly between breaths. Jate doubled over, gasping for air.
"It's ...your turn to hide.. Alyanna," he said at last in answer to her jubilant cries. "I hid...the last two times. You'll always win ... if you never hide!" He finally managed to catch his breath.
"Nuh uh," Alyanna contradicted with a hake of her head, pigtails whipping through the air. "You have to tag me. And you never do. I beat you fair."
The faint sound of ringing bells interrupted the banter, and the two children looked at one another. "I guess it's suppertime," Jateyani said with a grimace. "I don't have time to clean up. Mother will have a fit!"
