My Object of Affection, Simba- As long as I can remember Soft plush nestles against my skin, My security blanket, But not a blanket at all Rather a ruddy old stuffed lion. Plush pilled, With white faded yellow, Mane matted, Painted eyes slowly chipping away. To others it may be trash. While to me it is The hundreds of tears cried, The stale comforting smell, The friend that was there When my world felt like tumbling down on in. And something to talk to when I had no one else. That old raggedy lion may look like a goodwill misfit And smell like a carpetbag, But he holds memories that no photo album Could ever withstand. That ruddy old lion spread eagle on my bedspread. |
