So I've had this poem on my computer for quite some time. I've gone back to it on numerous occasions and added more, but it never feels compete. Its a poem about the paranoia that one feeles (or at least I feel) when I'm alone at night, walking from the downstairs to my room. I know that there's nothing there, but for some reason I feel like I'm being watched or followed.
Darkness growling, ever growing
always present and all knowing
Sees you sleeping, knows your fears
Enjoys your terror, laughs at tears
Stalks you at the midnight hour
Treading forth with unseen power
Coming closer, never stopping
Whilst the clock is tick-a-tocking.
As you make your way to bed
It makes its way into your head.
Worming fear into your mind
Until you’re sure it lurks behind.
But when you turn your head to see
There’s only darkness: nobody.
So there you have it. I was trying to get a strong rhythm going, but I'm not sure if that rhythm makes this poem scarier, or if it just makes it sound like a nursery rhyme.
