What happened to the Entwives? Do we ever find out? If they weren't found, then what happened to the Ents? I have only read The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, so i don't know if Tolkein ever told us.
Does anyone know?

No, I don't. But I'd really like to, cuz the Entwives issue is probably the only important problem that was never solved in LotR. I always expected to read something about them at the end of the books, but then it never came

No, I don't think Tolkien ever told us directly, but I think we can make inferences about what happened to them. I'd like to think that they settled somewhere in the farthest reaches of Arda, although there really isn't canon evidence for that.

no unfortunately not. I would like to think that maybe some day Merry and Pippin went out into the Old Forest and found some Entwives there and then told Treebeard about that and maybe they could've met again

I think that's left to the reader to decide.

Iasked my sister this. She told me that Tolkein said that there had to be some mysteries. I wish he would have told us. 'Cause that leaves a lot of things to think about.

haha that's so cool that we have the same imagination concerning the fate of the Ents. I just think it would be such a nice happy ending for them, also including the relationship between the old forest and Fangorn Forest and the friendship between Merry and Pippin and the Ents.

I dont think they ever found the ent wives. They did say it was sad that the ent-wives were gone, but they never went out for searching... they only ask Merry en Pippin if they want to look for them.
after Sauron was defeated, the hobbits had also to "defeat" Saruman and Grima. after that, they were much older then 30, it was also for them time to start a familie. and that cost much time too.
in the film the ents did say it was the last march of the ents. so perhaps they did go back to Fangorn forest and fell "asleep" again.
how ever, this is just a theory. perhaps its right, perhaps its wrong.
it on too or own imagination.
and, I suppose, It would be very boring if Tolkien would explain every little thing in Lord of the Rings, we do not understand.
it doesnt matter, just make youre own happy ending for the ents

of course we do as you can see as you already said, Tolkien left it to our imagination..
it's great to see a totally different version of the story.

This is one of the things that I wished Tolkien had explained.
I do think he meant for the Entwives to be somewhere near to the Shire.
Fellowship of the Ring: Book 1: Chapter 2: The Shadow of the Past. wrote: ' All right,' said Sam, laughing with the rest. 'But what about these Tree-men, these giants, as you might call them? They do say that one bigger than a tree was seen up away beyond the North Moors not long back.' 'Who's they?' ' My cousin Hal for one. He works for Mr. Boffin at Overhill and goes up to the Northfathing for the hunting. He saw one.' ' Says he did, perhaps. Your Hal's always saying he's seen things; and maybe he sees things that aren't there.' 'But this one was as big as an elm tree, and walking - walking seven yards to a stride, if it wasn't an inch.' 'Then I bet it wasn't an inch. What he saw was an elm tree, as like not.' 'But this one was walking, I tell you; and there ain't no elm tree on the North Moors.' 'Then Hal can't have seen one.' said Ted.
I doubt Hal was making it up as from Merry and Pippin's reaction to Treebeard in TTT I don't think the Hobbits had any children's stories etc involving Ents like the Rohirrim did.
But Tolkien didn’t explain it!
But I’ve always believed that what Hal saw was an Entwife. And Treebeard says that the Shire sounds like the sort of place the Entwives would like so maybe they were there?
Or maybe there were Ents (not Entwives) in the Old Forest and that was one wandering out to look for the Entwives but I prefer to think that it was an Entwife that Hal saw. (And I don’t agree with Ted one minute that Hal was making it up )

In The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien, Tolkien writes to someone who asked about the Entwives, and essentially said that he hadn't really thought about a definite end/result for them, but he thought that the Entwives were mostly killed in the destruction of their gardens before the Last Alliance, and the remainder fled East or South, and while some might have escaped and lived on, he said that probably at least some had been captured and enslaved by Sauron--as he said, even Sauron's orcs needed gardens to produce their food. He said he doubted that the Ents would ever meet the Entwives again, at least in Middle-earth.
So, they have kind of a dismal fate, since Tolkien's thoughts are essentially canon in his created world. Which in this case stinks, because I'd always wanted the Ents to finally find the Entwives.

Well, they will remain. Like the Elves, their long lives can be a hindrance too. They will shepherd the trees until either Dagor Dagorath or they all become "treeish" in my opinion..
@Aerandir- It does kinda suck, but I think that it may have been the only real plot resolution, as a reunion makes it all less tragic, and you feel less compassion or sorrow for them.
My musings.
