It's really pity that Tolkien couldn't finish "The Silmarillion" and "Unfinished Tales".I really enjoyed reading them(though I can't say I understood everything at first.I hope I'll have time to read them once more this year). The way he described the History of Middle-earth is amazing.I mean everything is logical and it sounds real like the author was there and saw everything. It's so amazing!

yeah I can only agree. I wish Tolkien could've finished the Silmarillion and the Unfinished Tales.. I think he probably intended to change them quite a lot still.. but still everything sounds so real to me too and I don't find that in many books and I guess that's also a reason why I love it so much.

Yes, that's one of the things that I love about The Silmarillion. Instead of being something like The Song of Roland or The Aeneid, it's more like a history book. However, it is also not like a history book, because it's more....flowing. It is its own thing. And I love it for that. :)

I agree with you Aerandir when you say the Silmarillion is like a history book, after all it is the history of Middle-earth and how it had it's beginning and the ones who shaped it.
Elenthari, put it nicely when saying it was MAGNIFICENT,INCREDIBLE,WONDERFUL, a masterpiece. There will never be another Tolkien and there will never be a library of books penned by one individual that will ever come close to his writings. IMOP the Silmarillion was Tolkien's greatest masterpiece! One can read it again and again and still discover a world that is new and exciting!

I sooo totally agree with you. I think there's ever gonna be anything that'll come close to Tolkien's works. People can say whatever they want; to me the Silmarillion is Tolkien's greatest masterpiece and I could read it again and again and still discover something new in there for me.

Well, I actually think that The Unfinished Tales is on par with The Silmarillion--I can't decide which I like better. They are both awesome, and each time I read them I learn something new.

If you ask me,Aerandir,I think that the The Silmarillion and The Unfinished Tales are like two parts of one book. They both expand each other. It was very interesting when I read them-I learned so much about ME!It's just amazing.Everything was so logical and real.

Silmarillion... I admit I haven't ever read it... well finished anyways. I started to read few times, but it gets too confusing to my brains. But I have thetime since I own a copy. I will read it someday. :bounce:
