The Noldor, definitely, IMHO. After all, they had Finrod, Aegnor, Fingon, Fingolfin, and all of those great princes among their ranks.
The Teleri and Nandor are cool as well, though.
Which book was that from, btw?

Ah. I really, really, really want to read HoME now.
Yeah, I've noticed that you like Aegnor.
I just like all of the children of Finarfin. And Fingolfin.

My favourites are the Noldor, too. As you said, Finrod was a Noldo and he is my favourite character in the Sil hehe I love him
But I also like all the other elves a lot. They've all got something special about them, like e.g. the Teleri the love for the sea which I really like.
But all in all the Noldor are my favourites

Yeah, it really is a hard choice. And tbh, the Sindarin/Teleri come in at a close second to the Noldor, because of Thingol, Beleg, and Mablung.
It made me so incredibly angry at the Dwarves of Nogrod when they sacked Menegroth and killed Mablung and Thingol.

oh yeah, definitely, cuz I quite like the Sindar too, especially Mablung. I think he's such a brave captain and then dwarves came and killed him Thingol and sacked Menegroth. I was quite upset about this.

wow you've read the Sil when you were only 12?? You must be very smart then. I first read it when I was 14 or 15 I think and I didn't really understand it at first since there was so much information in it.
That part when Thingol was killed didn't stop me from keeping on reading the Sil but I just found it very sad and it was something the dwarves shouldn't have done.

I read The Silmarillion for the first time in 2002, which would've been when I was twelve or thirteen.
For a little while it was my favourite book, mostly because of the 'supporting' characters like Finrod, Glorfindel, Ecthelion, and Mablung.

Lúthien=Awesomness, but not as awesome as Beren, Tuor, and Finrod.
Mablung, Ecthelion, Fingon, and Fingolfin come in after her.
And no worries, Aerlinn--I already knew that I had a weird personality.

That sounds a lot like a real life question to me...why does God allow good people to die? Why are endings so sad sometimes?
Was that maybe the point he wanted to make? That we don't understand everything? *shrugs*

Quote: Lol. No, I actually meant it as a Tolkien-question, not a religious one.
Really? What makes you think they're so seperate?
You wondered what point Tolkien was trying to get across. But why wouldn't you be willing to accept a point that verged over the "line" of religion? It would be best to accept Tolkien and his conveyings as they are.

I hope I'm not breaking any rules...for the record, though I mentioned God, this is what I said in answer to the question:
"Was that maybe the point he wanted to make? That we don't understand everything?" That doesn't necessarily have anything to do with religion.

Well, I just got the impression that she simply didn't make it to the peak of Meneltarma in time--I mean, many others died, and they had just as much right to live (meaning they were Faithful) as she did, so I don't see that she stands out, though each time I read that bit, I wish that she could've lived.

yeah, I agree with what you say, Aerandir.
I just guess she didn't make it to the peak of Meneltarma in time unfortunately. I wish she could've lived, too, but I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes. Not all good people can always be saved.

Well, the arguments aren't bad, but still I'm not convinced that Miriel and Ar-Pharazon loved each other. Why would Ar-Pharazon have married Miriel against her will if they actually loved each other. The fact that both of them didn't marry earlier could well also have been for other reasons and for me it's not a reason to believe that they loved each other. I just think that Ar-Pharazon married Miriel because of his desire for power and didn't think of having children at all, but only of himself.
I think that maybe Miriel didn't rebel against Ar-Pharazon, because she may have felt some duty - not love towards him. He was her husband after all. Also it could be that Miriel was afraid of Ar-Pharazon, because I think that he saw nothing else, but his desire to rule the world and so I think he'd have killed Miriel if she had rebelled against him..
