Post subject:  Isildur's heir

Im not sure if this fits with this category but it is history of Middle-Earth.

Why didi Isildur choose Aragorn as his heir?

Had he no children?

Isildur was long, long dead. Aragorn was descended from him, though. When Isildur was ambushed, his youngest son, Valandil, was still in Rivendell. Aragorn is descended directly from him, and since the line was unbroken, there was no need to appoint anyone else as the Heir of the Kingdom.

How does Aragorn relate to his own son or to Isildur's son?

Aragorn is the father of Eldarion, and as to Valandil, Aragorn is something like his great-great-great-grandson fifteen times over.

Aragorn is descended, father to son, directly from Valandil, Isildur's son.

So the chain is of course unbroken, resulting in Aragorn ruling.

Oh, there is a lot more, but most of it is in the Appendices to The Return of the King. It'd take way too long to put it all up on here.

Okay....

Isildur was born in Numenor during the Second Age, son of Elendil, grandson of Amandil. He lived for 234 years. It was because of him that Minas Tirith still has the White Tree, because the King of Numenor cut down the original tree, which was given to them by the Elves. Isildur went secretly at night, and stole a fruit from the tree, which (obviously) had a seed in it. This they planted, and when they fled to Middle-earth upon the destruction of Numenor, they planted it in Minas Tirith. So, that's some basic stuff about him before he came to Middle-earth.
