I don't know his other non-LotR work. He wrote some poems, right? And perhaps some non-fiction too? |

Leaf by Niggle. It's so different from his other works, and such a quaint way of making the analogy that it does. |

"Farmer Giles of Ham" has to be one of the best works ever! It's certainly one of my favorites and my most favorite of Tolkein's non-LotR works. ![]() |

Silmarillion of course. Because it isn't LotR either. |

I'll always have a fond spot in my heart for The Hobbit. I read it for the first time when I was in 4th grade, and have loved it since...but I also did like Farmer Giles! |

Because it clearly wasn't anyone else's favourite so far. |

Leaf by Niggle because it was beautifully written and has characters that aren't just a set of shallow heroes and villains. The Silarillion helped me to expand my background knowledge of Middle-Earth and helped with my understanding of LotR, but I found it hard to appreciate it as a novel and not as a history book or Bible-like story (in style, not in content), otherwise I'm sure it would have a good chance to rank as #1 on my personal list. |
