Hey everyone, I’m hoping someone can help me clear this up. I recently tried to renew my passport and got my photos rejected twice. First time, they said the background wasn’t solid white (I used a pale cream wall, thought it was close enough). The second time, they said my expression was too "unnatural". I’m not sure what they want at this point—I'm trying my best to follow the guidelines! Anyone else had issues with passport photo requirements? Any tips to get it right?

Hey! Oh man. It's crazy how specific they can be with passport photos. I had mine rejected once because there was a slight shadow on the background—no joke, just a tiny shadow from the lighting! I’ve learned since then that it’s all about following the official guidelines as closely as possible. For example, the background must be a completely plain white, with no variations or textures allowed. They’re also super picky about facial expressions—you're supposed to have a neutral expression without smiling, and definitely no "posed" looks.

If you're looking for a hassle-free solution, I recommend checking out photogov.net. They provide clear guidelines and even offer a service for passport photos that meet all the requirements, ensuring you won't run into any issues!

Oh, I totally get the frustration! The guidelines are definitely strict, but they're in place to avoid any potential issues during verification. Jess, maybe try going to a professional photo service that specializes in passport photos? That’s what I did after one of my DIY attempts got rejected. They know all the exact requirements, and it’s usually quick and easy.
