Does anyone have a good topic for a Lord of the Rings lit paper? I'm currently taking a break from school, and I like to research a lot, and really want to have something to do to keep myself on my game for academic writing. Point: Is there an area of Tolkien scholarship that you would like to see more of? Tell me here and I'll try to write 10-12 pages about the subject. |

Maybe it would be interesting to compare Tolkien's work with earlier and later fairytales/epic stories/fantasy stories and see what they have in common and what their differences are? Since some people consider Tolkien to be the 'father' of modern fantasy stories, it would be nice to see how he provides a link between earlier and later fantasy works. Good luck writing! Good idea to keep yourself busy and to keep increasing your skills ![]() |

Do you have any suggestions for what I could use for the earlier? Because according to the brain washing of my English department I am a sinner for not liking literature from before the 20th century. |

Erm maybe some really old stuff? Like the Greek epics (the Odyssey and the Illias), or maybe some Norse stories. Or the King Arthur story, which is more in the line of LOTR? I also know Tolkien used a lot of old sagas as inspiration (like Beowulf), so it might be interesting to look into that as well! |
