Post subject:  Can I use a selfie for a digital US passport photo?

Hi everyone! I have a question: is it possible to take a selfie and use it as a digital passport photo? I tried taking photo with front camera, but I heard that this can cause problems. The portal supposedly checks the proportions of the face and often rejects photos taken this way. I want to save time and money, so I wonder - is it possible to take a high-quality selfie at home so that it meets the requirements of 2025?

Hi! In theory, selfies are allowed, but only if they are done correctly. The front camera and an outstretched arm distort the perspective, and the face comes out too small or stretched. It is better to use the main camera of the phone, placing it on a tripod or shelf. The light should be even, the background is white without shadows. The photo must be in JPEG format, 600x600 pixels in size and no more than 240 KB. Detailed rules are here: passport photo dimensions 2025 https://digital-passport-photo.com . It describes how to take a photo with the right head ratio (50-69%). I took the photo at home and it worked the first time, you just need to follow the instructions carefully.

I tried selfies and also encountered problems. The front camera distorts the face a lot, so the portal does not allow such photos. In the end, I took a photo with the rear camera, and everything worked out. So it is better to choose a more reliable option right away.
