When I first started readying it I thought it was childish but as I got further into the story I adored it. The history and the way Tolkien described the characters and events just enthralled me. I couldn't but it down. The Hobbit was my first Tolkien book, and got me started with the whole Lord of the Rings World |

I loved the Hobbit! The way it is written is so great! You feel as if Tolkien was telling you the story. It also gives you important background information which makes you better understand LotR. I didn't think it was childish though. Of course it is a lot easier to read than anything Tolkien has written, but it's far from boring! ![]() |

The Hobbit was (like a lot of people) my first Tolkien book. I read it when I was about 8 or 9 maybe, and it's also the book I've read the most times. It's actually rather complex if you think about it, and not 'just a child's book'--besides, I love kids' books ![]() |

Exactly what I felt when I read it!! When I was reading The Hobbit and the Roverandom, I thought how wonderful it would be to have Tolkien as a father, so he could tell me these amazing stories before going to bed. I imagine him telling the stories with the same passion that he wrote them, it should be wonderful to hear it. I loved The Hobbit and the Roveradom a lot, but I didn't feel the same way with Farmer Giles of Ham, although it's a good story either. |

yes I think that Farmer Giles of Ham was a bit more childish, but I really like Leaf by Niggle on the other hand (I read those two stories in one book...) |

I read the hobbit after LotR and of course I was not that impressed, but anyway, I love it. Like all Tolkien works. It's just completely different from the great mythologies, it's a book for children, basically. But with such a depth that also adults won't get bored of it. |

^ *agrees* I was also not that impressed, because it was not like all the great mythologies, but I still find it very interesting and fascinating. |

I really enjoyed reading The Hobbit!! It showed the same depth as Lord of the Rings but with a different story. It also gave plenty of info throughout the book concerning later things inthe LotR Trilogy. I found it most helpful. ![]() |

Of course I do. Who wouldn't? At first glance you think, oh the cute little things. And then you realize there's so much more to them than meets the eye. Loyal as can be, peaceful, and yet when they need to be, they're as dedicated to fulfilling whatever task as they are to eating six meals a deal, with as many mushrooms as possible. What do you like about hobbits? |

That they're so cute, first of all. And then, that they have a certain innocence about them, they're people who don't know about the evil things of the world, they just like their good food and are content to own what they have. They don't want more. But if it comes to it, they can be more corageous than none other, which is something that I admire about them. |
