Johnny's Fan wrote: That would be awesome if you would like to write the Hobbit character bios! Absolutely. Do you have any examples of what already written bios look like? Just so that I can make sure they feel sort of similar. What hobbits need bios?

Well if you take a look at the bios we have already for Lord of the Rings characters, it should give you an idea of the style we are looking for. It doesn't have to be exact, as I know it will be hard to copy Arweb's wording etc. But as long as it's well written, I don't think it will matter that much if it looks like it has been written by someone else.

As you can see, there are a few characters who cross over from LotR to the Hobbit. I'm not sure how many character bios we actually need for the Hobbit, the Dwarves certainly, and characters like Radagast. But I guess the minor characters are not needed, just like the minor LotR characters have been excluded.
But we have characters like Gollum, Gandalf, Bilbo, etc, so I don't think anything needs to be changed with those bios. I can just add them to the Hobbit section and leave them as they are.
To be honest, I don't care if you only write one word a week, I've been waiting so long for anyone to be willing to work on the bios, I would be happy with one word.

I'll get crackin' once I've gotten some sleep *been awake forever*. And thanks for the link, will look them over and try and make mine match at least the template of the already existing ones. And I'll start with the dwarf gang.

Could you use another hand in writing those Hobbit character bios? I've got some time to spare at the moment, so I'll gladly help out if you can use me Also, I still have the completed bio for Thorin on my PC (I wrote that in September ) and I can't remember if it ever got to you JF.

If you also decide to help out (yay), do you think we could sort of, talk ourselves together so we don't end up writing bios for the same characters?

Sounds great! I think it would be easier to move that conversation to PM so we won't bore/bother anyone with it

Is there a specific deadline or is it just us writing whenever we can and then PM'ing them to you as they get done? *Is excited to start, but alas, it's 7AM and I haven't slept yet.*

@ JF - I had completely forgotten about it as well, but I read through it and it seems finished. Do you want me to send it via PM or do you prefer another way?

I'll read through Thorin's bio one more time to see if I'm completely satisfied with it, so I'll probably send it to you tomorrow. Next I'll start working on Thranduil's.
EDIT: Do we want to base the bios on the books/appendices, or can we also rely on some background information that has been provided by Peter Jackson & Co? Yesterday I started to look for some information about the other Dwarves (so all besides Thorin), and based on the Hobbit there's not much to go on. They don't appear in any other Tolkien book either, so those bios will be very short and quite uninformative.

I think it could be a good idea to have another thread for it. Then it'd be easier for others who might want to help to see what would need to be worked on, and it would help prevent two people writing a bio for the same character if there's an updated list with who's doing what.

Would reviving the Member Awards help live the place up, you think? I was looking over the section and it seemed like it was a good fun. Maybe there could at least just be one, to see how it might affect the site, and then possibly it could become more annually or regularly?
*Just a suggie*

Bellatrix, I had eye on the Members Awards for some time already. This was huge fun and it would be awesome to have this competition going on once again. And it would be even more fun if there were more than one award.
