Everyone knows the first Hobbit movie was a big hit, and for us fans a dream come true. But I would like to point one thing out about Thorin. He's a dwarf right? Then why is he the size of a normal man in the movie? He's supposed to be the same size as the others, isn't he? The first time I watched it I said the same thing to my father, and he didn't remember him being that tall either. Is it really just me remembering wrong or am I right?

I also don't remember Thorin being as tall as Elves or Gandalf. Compared to the other Dwarves Thorin is quite tall though, but when you see him next to Elrond he's clearly shorter
Thorin: 4 feet 10 and a half inches Dwalin: 4 feet 11 inches Kili: 4 feet 8 inches
The shortest Dwarves on this chart are 4 feet 5 inches tall.
Tolkien's descriptions (more detailed descriptions for Hobbits can be found)
Hobbits: between 3 and 4 feet (Bullroarer and other notable hobbits excepted)
Dwarves: about 4 feet high at least (JRRT, late note)
Gandalf: '... even bent must have been at least 5 ft. 6... Which would make him a short man even in modern England, especially with the reduction of a bent back.' (JRRT, late note)
In the book, dwarves are indeed described as shorter in stature compared to humans. However, in the film adaptation, Thorin is portrayed as being taller than the other dwarves.
