I love the extended versions, and would highly recommend them if you have the money! There are some totally new scenes, and many extended ones. Here is a quick list of brand new scenes:

Concerning Hobbits
At The Green Dragon
The Passing of the Elves
The Midgewater Marshes
Gilraen's Memorial
The Departure of the Fellowship

There are few scenes that are not extended, so it would be really hard to explain them all. My best advice? Rent it or buy it. Definitely worth the price!

At the Green Dragon is the best added scene of FotR. You get to see hobbits as they really are. And the extensions of scenes are wonderful too.
"Yes, Gimli, even their own masters cannot find them." "Why doesn't that suprise me?"
You also get to see the giving of gifts to all of the fellowship, which is a beautiful scene.

I have to differ with you Nurrantiel, my very favorite scene in the extended version is the "The Departure from Lorien", it's so beautiful, I love it. The music is wonderful, the scenes are superb. Ack, I just love it! Fwee! :-D

You get so much more from seeing the extended versions. Now, I can hardly watch the regular ones because it just seems so much different.

The best thing about having an extended dvd is all the cool making of documentaries they have. The best? Fellowship of the cast and the galleries!

i really don't watch the theatrical versions anymore unless i want to watch one of the movies but i don't quite want it that long. i do have to say though that its weird for me to see the 1st of the fellowship b/c the begining with gandalf and the shire is almost totally diff. in the EE. but i think i like the extented better.

so yes the EE is very cool and if you have the money i recimend you get the ones with the figures with them. the figures are awsome

I made - FORCED my friend last weekend watch the trilogy of extended - she had NOT seen any of the rings movies.. I havent watched the theatrical versions in years now, and i've forgotten which scenes are extended and those that are not. But, every fan must see the EE editions, at least once!
