Who do you think should have done the flight to the ford scene? |

^I completely agree with both of you. And Glorfindel was "one of the mighty among the Eldar". If Peter Jackson could put in Haldir, why couldn't he put in Glorfindel? Who would've thought Arwen Undomiel, of all people, could be capable of stealing Glorfindel's role? Who would've thought she could be capable of stealing anything?? |

... Peter Jennings? ![]() Anyways, it looks like I am the only one that will be a Supporter... let me explain. Well, first off, PJ was not the one who started the 'No Glorfindel' trend. Ralph Bakshi, the creator of the animated version, was... he put Legolas in Glorfindel's place. Now, I have a feeling that if it were Legolas snatching Frodo instead of Arwen, there would be hardly any complaint. But this is why I support Arwen, or don't think Glorfindel would do well: -Only cameo. In movieland, it would not be good to introduce a character and then suddenly just let him disappear. It can work for small characters like barkeeps and random soldiers, but the elf who actually *really* helps Frodo? It would just be pointless to introduce him and then for him to suddenly disappear. It works in books, but does not work very well in movies. That is probably one of the main reasons we see Haldir again, along with Elrond and Galadriel when they are not 'technically there'. -Set up Aragorn/Arwen relationship. One of my biggest qualms with the books is the lack of context within the pages of the two; we get a nice story in the appendices, yes, but the makers of LOTR had to somehow combine the story of Arwen and Aragorn into the movies when it was only in the background in the books. We know in the books that Aragorn has loved Arwen for 68 years (by his wedding day) because of the appendices, but the movie-goers do not know that. A good way to introduce Arwen and also show a bit of Aragorn's and Arwen's love was to put her in Glorfindel's role. I am glad, though, that she was NOT at Helm's Deep. THAT would have been too much. So yea, even though I miss Glorfindel, I understand why he was erased (alongside Elladan, Elrohir, and the Rangers, as much as I love them), and I completely see why Arwen's role had to be expanded, and this Ford scene did the trick in expanding it a bit. |

Well I agree with you all I would have loved to see Glorifindel have a great part! But they had to show arwens skills or all she would be like in the movie is a elf maiden whos in love and doesnt seem toufgh. Yeah but if they had Glorifindel he could have been like the 2nd legolas. I mean in looks ways ![]() |

Can you imagine the fan girls with Glorfindel if he looked anything like Orlando Bloom? Or, even worse, all the people that would mistake Glorfindel for Legolas? I know already too many people that mix up all the hobbits together, or Aragorn, Boromir, and Faramir! Adding Glorfindel would have been a bit chaotic... |

I believe Glorfindel should have been the one to save Frodo. Arwen is in the movie too much already in scenes that wern't in the book. ![]() Quote: But they had to show arwens skills or all she would be like in the movie is a

Ainu Laire wrote: ... Peter Jennings? ![]() it's not that big of a deal. ![]() Oops! ![]() And I agree Eldariel. The only skill Arwen ever did show in the books was sewing. But perhaps PJ was trying to put Arwen in the same perspective as to Eowyn. To some people, Eowyn seems like this amazing warrior-maiden who defeated the Lord of the Nazgul, and to them the least Arwen can do is save the Ring-bearer. |

I don't mean to be rude, but in the books Arwen only ever showed skills in sewing. Like I said before, PJ had to establish her character, make her bigger; otherwise the coronation scene would have not been nearly as moving, nor would most of the audience have understood why he was marrying her instead of Eowyn... most of them would have pretty much forgotten about Elrond as well, considering he would have no need to be in the second and most of the third movie if Arwen played as much of a role as she did in the books! Also, introducing a character like Glorfindel and then suddenly him disappearing does not work well in the movie world. Arwen needed some type of introduction, and this worked very well. Besides, I think Glorfindel is happy he isn't reduced to eye-candy as is poor Legolas ![]() |

well, i think he should've looked a little different from the guy they had who was in like one scene. here's a picture. http://www.arwen-undomiel.com/images/Glorfindel.jpg i'm sorry, but i REALLY don't like how he looks as such a cool character! ![]() |

Yea, that picture of Glorfindel makes me crack up all the time... eh, but I really cannot see anyone else making a good elf; Cate, Liv, and Orlando make great elves in my opinion... couldv'e done better on Haldir, Elrond, and Celeborn... finding a good person to play Glorfindel would have been very challenging. I honestly think that is just would not suit the movies at all... |

Ah yes, the old issues of Glorfindel Vs. Arwen. *sighs* Well, I have to say that my opinion definately goes toward Glorfindel. My reasons? Well, for one I think it is TOTALLY unrealistic that Arwen would have gone out to save the hobbits. Why? 1. She was alone. 2. She was Elrond's only daughter. 3. She was princess of Rivendell. 4. She was the Evenstar of her people. 5. There were NAZGUL out there. 6. There were probably a MILLION other MALE elves out there who would have been PERFECT for that job! (a soldier, a scout, a member of the COUNCIL even, but not Elrond's youngest child!!) see what I mean? Not to mention the fact that I was really upset when she took credit for the water spell done by Elrond (and Gandalf for the awesome horse effect). Actually, I found a picture that actually describes this very well. See what you think... ![]() Don't you love the expressions on their faces? This art was done by Rachel E. Peace: Hilarious picture! I adore it!! ![]() I am such a Glorfindel fangirl I must admit [ and that picture elfy person that is tilted Glorfindel I'm not happy with, for obvious reasons] but however I don't mind Arwen rescuing the hobbits in Glorfindel's place. I mean, I don't dislike her for having that part but I would've much prefered to see Glorfindel do it. And it's also a chance to connect the tales in the Silmarillion to Lord of the Rings since fans have argued for EVER about whether or not Glorfindel of Gondolin was the same as Glorfindel of Rivendell. I think someone earlier mentioned how having a character come and leave didn't work for Hollywood. [It's really not like they had to mention that his name was Glorfindel or the fact that he had to really COME. Alot of characters did come and leave, such as Figwit [is it?] He didn't even get his own line until RotK, and all that was was "My lady, Arwen?" Arwen; I do believe they mentioned in the EE that Liv Tyler found all these sites about Arwen being Xena Warrior Princess and she said she was distraught. So, the fans aren't the only ones that are concerned about Arwen being the one to save them ![]() |
