At the beginning of the movie, Legolas says:"A red sun rises. Blood has been spilled that night" (or at least something similar).
And in Helms Deep King Theoden says" for a red dawn". Then he (and the others) ride out, the sun is rising, but it isn't red! There has been so much blood spilled that night, why isn't the sun red? I mean Theoden had just talked about it, did PJ forget? Or did he want the sun not to be red??

I don't know why the sun isn't red. Perhaps they didn't want to wait for a red sunrise. Or it can be that the sun was red, but they didn't show it. When Legolas talks about a red sunrise, you can only see it for a very short time, at least, I think it was for a short time. I can't watch my dvd from TTT anymore, it has a scratch in it.

That's interesting. Maybe it's because it's not nighttime when Theoden says that? I dont know...

That was very clever on your part. I never even thought of that until you brought it up. I'd have to watch the movie again though to make sure I understand completely what they were talking about. I don't want to say anything until i'm sure.

Ahoy there comrades!

That is the cleveriest of observations, on your part Elenya... and a pretty blatant oversight on the part of Pete and his people.

But then after all, he had those brilliant lighting effects in the frames shortly after featuring Gandalf & Eomer's men, to concern himself with :-D

Neither line was in the books, so it's just something PJ thought up. Apparently he overlooked the fact that there was a huge battle.

Once again, I wonder about how you catch this stuff... It is quite interesting, though. I have no clue...

Honestly? Who says a red sun rises every time blood has been spilled? It could be a simple myth, almost like you get bad luck when you open an umbrella inside.

I imagine, Legolas' line was just to make things more intense since there was a possibility that Merry and Pippin were going to die in TTT with the Orcs/Uruk-Hai.

That actually seems very likely. They didn't say anything about a red dawn in that part of TTT did they?

Well, that's what Elenya was talking about yes? "A red sun rises; blood has been spilled this night."

Maybe it is because Legolas' are much keener than those of men and he could perhaps catch a bit more red than usual in the rising sun...
But maybe it was meant kinda poetic... whatever

^I vote poetic. But it's a nice poetic. Gave him a few lines.

I noticed Legolas's lines, but I've never really recogognized that Theoden refers to a "red dawn" as well. That's interesting. :)
I agree with Kitoky and Eruhin about the poetic effect.
