Sam said many quote worthy things during all three movies. That line is personally one of my favourites.

Sam is a great character don't you think? Brave and very loyal, but also with a touch of good-natured humor. A very pleasing hobbit.
Tehe!

The sad parts add the humanity to the story... as much as I hate to say it, Haldir's death was important because it showed that it wasn't just the humans who were affected by the evil in Mordor..

The annoying thing is that some of the sad parts HAVE to happen... i.e. Gandalf has to fall in Moria or he wont come back as Gandalf the White and heal Theoden etc... *ponders*

I guess I do too. I do like movies and books that are sad because then they move you, and they're hard to forget. But that's very depressing sometimes. Sad books are good too, including a book called Go Ask Alice, but I won't explain about that because then this post would be off-topic.

I like the sad parts, they add depth to a story. But I've gotta have humour or I am gonna feel so damn sad through the entire film!

As you all say, stories need sad parts. It moves you and you won't easily forget the movie/book. But without humor a film is a bit... hm.. depressing..?
And LotR has both and maybe that's one of the reasons I love it so much! everything I like in a good story is in it, both in the book and in the movies.

That was freaky when Gandalf was taking how they took it between voices!
