Lady K, i don't think Legolas missed. he's to good to just miss on a wim like that. i agree with everyone else who said he was trying to stop Grima from hurting Sauruman anymore than he already was.

I think it was just a reflex. In the movie they showed Grima more than the book in my opinion. I wouldn't consider him completely evil, he could have had a change of heart. Okay, maybe he was MOSTLY evil, by hey. In the book Frodo tried to stop the hobbits from shooting Grima. Movie showed more emotion. He was a man of rohan before a spy just like in the book. I thought it was good ending in movie, kinda felt sorry for Grima though...
Gee Grima stabbed him two times, it's possible for him to live? I think Saruman would've died one way or another. Same thing Grima had a reflex.

But then....I dunno, people would be against it if Theoden decided to take Grima Wormtongue back in..
Especially Eomer!

True! I kinda find that funny. Eomer watching Wormtongue constantly incase he does anything to Eowyn. Hm...I wonder what Theoden would do to Wormtongue when he did take him back. He wasn't born evil...

I think it was good that Legolas killed Grima, but also kind of sad, because he could have been good. But what was PJ supposed to do, if he did decide to keep him alive?? Since there wasn't a Scouring of the Shire, then was he supposed to keep him alive and have him return to Rohan?? He had to follow the book as best as he could, and without a Scouring of the Shire, he killed both Saruman and Grima off as best as he could. (Legolas was probably the only one of the group whose aim could be that true anyway!!)

Yes...last night my friend (who had never seen the EE) and I were watching RotK, and she said "Why did he shoot Grima?"
Hmmm...reflex theory is a good one...another thought I had was that Legolas has really only seen one side of Grima--the side of working for Saruman, trying to take over Rohan. It's easy that he would just assume Grima was very evil, and that after Saruman he could assume power and try to cause more harm--being that close to him and all. What do you think?
I felt for Grima, though. With Theoden--"You were once a man of Rohan!"--and Saruman hitting him down...literally, verbally ("You stink of horse"), figuratively...I really felt for him in the book especially. Creepy as he was in TTT.

when Saroman said that wormtongue would never be free of him that was the cause that started everything. Beause Wormtongue had been forced to listen to Saroman so... i guess legolas could think of nothing else to do but to kill him because of wat wormtongue did while they were trying to get info on saron. It even confuses me sometimes but in the end i still think that wormtongue was a good person but he had just only understood that he was being used as a slave.

Legolas killed Wormtongue because he stabbed Saruman, and because Wormtongue was an evil traitor anyway. And because Legolas is so awesome, he of course, didn't miss (because the only time he missed his exact mark was when Gimli tapped his bow!). Wormtongue had to die, or more harm could have been done. And, of course, since Legolas was the only one present who had half-decent aim, he was the one to kill Wormtongue, and of course did so.
