I am still very afraid that he's what they're going for. But I'm just trying to cling to the hope that nothing's been really decided yet. They haven't even signed up a director yet. Surely there are many, many more steps to take before they start casting a new role. _________________

I think HSM might not be quite so bad as many of us make it out to be, in fairness. Yes, it's not our brand of TV/movie, but it could be a lot worse.
Also, I realize there are die-hard fans out there, but when you step back, PotC IS just a movie. It's really not worth getting depressed about, Zac Efron or no Zac Efron. From what I've been reading, many of us in this thread are very skeptical about just how good this movie will be in any case, so why should we be upset about mere rumors? If you must be upset, wait for confirmation before you buy an HSM coloring book and draw mustaches on Efron. Or whatever your coping mechanism is  And if it's bad, then it's bad, and we can all go back and watch the first three and pretend #4 never existed. Everybody wins. _________________

HAHA!!! My sister never believed that there would be a fourth one but I said that there would! She thought that at the end of the third that when jack stole that map from Barbosa that they were always going to be searching for something and that that was ethe end of it but.... I KNEW THERE WAS MORE!!!!!!!!!

Okay, first off, I've <i>got</i> to stick up for Zac Efron here. I'm bursting at the seams here... Just because he got cast in what most of us (myself included) deem the cheesiest movie of the year (or is it three movies now?) ...doesn't necessarily make him a bad actor. I personally think he's pretty talented, he can't help it that he's turned into a Hollywood prettyboy symbol. I have nothing against the guy personally, and (don't maul me for this please, just opinion) I'd be interested to see what kind of job he would do in a pirate movie... given a good, non-stereotyped character, who knows? He might just blow us out of the water. (No pun intended.) _________________ <center>

It's just the same thing. HSM doesn't feel like a Disney film. Just because it's the most overrated film ever of Disney doens't mean it's good, or the other films are crap or the same.
Sorry, but comparing HSM to Golden Age Disney= does not compute.

No me gusta Zac Efron. I would not like to see him at all in POTC. I can't picture that pretty boy with a rapier and not ruining the movie for me.

Agreed, I see they are trying to replace Orlando's part in the movie by bringing in someone young and an apparent heartthrob... but Zac is no Orlando either >< >< >< ><

If Orlando is not going to be in Pirates 4 I see absolutely no reason for a replacement character. The audience loves the Pirates franchize regardless and you don't need a young male heartthrob to flock all the teenage girls. Besides, what would be the purpose of a young male character? Jack's sidekick? Please, NO!

Exactly, everyone is drawn to Jack and that is who we watch the movie for... well all of the other characters as well, they do not need to throw in a new young character... it would be pointless.... the only thing I can see for the young character is if the movie is dealing with the fountain of youth... but please.. Zac... you could find so many greater actors out there

I'd love to see the fountain of youth in the film but I'd hate it if Jack actually made use of it. I don't want to see a younger-looking Jack Sparrow (thus played by a younger actor) as it wouldn't be Johnny's Jack. The only way I'd allow them to do this would be to have Johnny do it himself.
But like you said, there are so many other greater (and way more talented) actors out there! Please... NO Disney Channel Product!!

I completely agree... I can't see Jack Sparrow being played by any other actor other than Johny Dep... it just wouldn't fit.
