He played Christine's dad??? Ok, now I have to go back and watch that scene in the chapel again (Even though it doesn't make any sense to me; why would she be all by herself in a creepy room right after the performance of her life? Couldn't that wait until later? But I digress.)
Ramin has a much better technical voice, but I think Gerard brought raw emotion to the character in a way that a polished singer couldn't. That's not to say that Ramin wouldn't be awesome as the Phantom in the movie! He's also incredibly good looking, so he's not exactly hard on the eyes.

It's so crazy! When I first found that out, I was like, wait, what? And had to go and watch it. Crazy. Well, as for emotion....they aren't even really performing here and it's a bad video and everything but you can still feel so much emotion! >>here. And most of the music I first heard him sing was...guh. Down Once More and Final Lair? Oh man. Chills. So many chills.
But I'm not bashing Gerard. To each their own. I just definitely prefer Ramin. And you're right, it is not difficult to look at him.
I love how we've just turned this thread into a Phantom squee fest.

I think I always found Christine's father good looking, too.... The woman playing Christine in that video annoys me, but Ramin is wonderful! I prefer his voice in the lower octaves, but he was still a billion times better than the original Phantoms.
I just looked up "Down Once More" on youtube, but came up with nothing for him. I think Gerard nailed that part (when he's dragging her down the stairs, looking all lumpy and beautiful). I would LOVE to hear Ramin's version of it, since I adore that song.
haha I understand. My friend likes Gerard as the Phantom, but completely loves Ramin. Ramin truly is the perfect package!
Nobody seems to be complaining. Or around at all, in fact. Where did everyone go? Me thinks the Phantom is too awesome for them to handle.

Ello Skitty!
I know! I do not understand the hype over Michael Crawford. I mean, he created the role that we know of as the Phantom, but I really just can't do his voice.
Yeah, it's sad. For some reason all the videos that were there last year are completely gone now. Like, not even a "this video has been removed" sign or anything. I wish I could find something again, but I can't. Still, hopefully we'll get more stuff of Love Never Dies? World premiere in a week and a half. I think what I loved most about his rendition of Down Once More was the part "down once more into darkness deep as Hell!" Gerard kind of screams the last bit, but Ramin...oh my. I am a sucker for pure tones. And he holds that just so super high and strong that...gah. Yeah, I just can't even do words to describe.

Hola, Kitty de Skit! I know, I thought we'd be there, too. Oh well. All the more posting we must do to get there! I'm sure we'll all be the best of friends by the time we reach page 300.
I completely agree! His voice just isn't the Phantom, and I'm not a huge fan of Sarah Brightman, either. I loved Emmy Rossum as Christine, even though her voice hadn't completely matured. That's what made her seem so innocent and pure.
I'm sure that some videos of Love Never Dies will come up on youtube. From what I hear, the storyline isn't so great, and I'm not sure how I feel about a sequel, but at least we get more Phantom songs! I kinda like how Gerard sings that line, but is does come too close to screaming. My favorite note of Gerard's is in Music of the Night when he sings, "Close your eyes, let your spirit start to soar". When he sings the word "soar", SR is . haha I'll be on the lookout to see if I can find Ramin's version of Down Once More.

Yes, that needs to happen.
My dad started singing the soup crimp in a restuarant today. It was both delightful and mortifying.
