I don't know if it's an official national/international day, but I do know a lot of LOTR-fans celebrate something on the 22nd of September in honor of Bilbo's and Frodo's birthday According to Wikipedia it's called Hobbit Day, and it's a part of Tolkien Week. _________________

Yep, the Hobbit facebook page posted up things about Hobbit Day! Although I didn't do anything this year. Usually I "eat like a hobbit", basically all the meals Pippin named off in FotR, I try to take part in....ok maybe its just an excuse to hit the snack cabinet pretty hard and not feel guilty about it.... _________________

I organized a birthday party for my mother on Hobbit Day, since we were going to be out of town on her real birthday. I did inform her that it was serving a double purpose, and fortunately she didn't mind.  There were even mushrooms present, that was the best thing. _________________
