I love Moria! I feel the power of dwarves while reading it - mines so big and now dangerous, before so glorious and beautiful. I am almost envious I am not a dwarf ^^

My absolute favorite places in LotR are Rivendell and The Shire. Secondarily, I also like Lothlorien and The Glittering Caves. Who could not love Rivendell? Quote: "Such was the virtue of the land of Rivendell that soon all fear and anxiety was lifted from their minds. The future, good or ill, was not forgotten, but ceased to have any power over the present. Health and hope grew strong in them, and they were content with each good day as it came, taking pleasure in every meal, and in every word and song." As Sam says, Rivendell is a bit of everything, and Rivendell appeals to me more than Lothlorien because Lothlorien seems more other-worldly. Tolkien's descriptions of The Shire also really speak to me. It reminds me of the natural beauty of the US Midwest or perhaps Ireland.

I prefer Lothlorien to Rivendell, because of this ethereal feeling that it gave me

In a way, I think that both Rivendell and Lothlorien are other-worldly, because the beauty of both is somehow connected to the power of the elves, and once the elves leave, both places sort of fade away.
The Shire, on the other hand, is completely natural, which is an aspect that appeals to me.

Shire is happy place with happy people. What we need more? Elves are too magnificent for me, I like Lorien but not as much as hobbit land.

The Mines of Moria, the Glittering Caves, and Helms Deep should be put in the list too I think. Such a strong fortress. But what about the Lonely Mountain? (CANT WAIT TO SEE IT IN THE HOBBIT MOVIE!!!!! ) Dale? Thranduil's Caves? Dol Amroth? (I find Dol Amroth, Prince Imrahil and Belfalas so mysterious.) Lets just say that all of Middle Earth is a beautiful place!

The Shire, Lothlorien, and Rivendell. I wanted to live in the Shire, and go on holiday to the Elven lands.

Absolutely the Shire. The Hobbit-mentality very much appeals to me, with love for everything that growns, good-natured, satisfied, and ofcourse having a preference for good food, company and peace. The Shire is a nice representation of these character traits But I think I'd also be curious to see Moria and the Dwarrowdelf in its glory days. Ofcourse we are only provided with a brief description by Gimli at a moment when the height of the Dwarven empire has already passed, but already this short description makes me wonder about how it would have been when there was still light and laughter in the halls.

Absolutely Shire. I am very attached to hobbit life and Shire is beautiful place to live. I love these fields, trees and silent afternoons I would make pretty neat hobbit if I could live in such place. But Moria is also very fascinating but unfortunately very dangerous. Maybe in the times of dwarves it could be very nice place to live but living under the mountain...I don't think I could stand it

Quote: What locations do you like or dislike? I like The Shire, The Barrow Downs, Bree, Amon Sul, Hollin, Rohan, Helms Deep, Paths of the Dead, The Stone of Erech, Ithilien, Argonath... Don't know if I 'dislike' anywhere, except maybe the environmental cesspool that was Mordor and outside it's gates.Quote: What is your favorite description of it? I liked the Shire descriptions, but one of my favourite places was Henneth Annun and the description really had my visualizing it.

I love also the Old Forest, and the other forest where Frodo, Sam and Pippin meet the elves.
