How about I pretend that I'm you and then I get to go?
No, just kidding. Have fun!

There was a fencing camp in Belfast a few years ago... I wish there'd be one there next year.
Though that'd make it so that all my hopes of going to Csehy would be dashed...

My I join? I love love love Ireland! As far as I know there is not a single drop of Irish blood in me, being a Slovak/German hybrid with a bit of Polish thrown in, but I've always had an infatuation with Ireland and anything celtic. I want to go there one day.

Its a good time to go too as prices have dropped with everyone's economy being down the swanney. My Mum runs a nice B&B, Willow Lodge in Kenmare, Co Kerry ( http://willowlodgekenmare.com/accommodation.html). Kenmare is an interesting town with to be honest an unusually high density of pubs and restaurants. In summer it even has a gypsy festival when it like stepping back to a time long ago, with horses in the main streets, and people popping in an out of pubs. I'd like to go to it one year myslef. What makes me laugh about the place though is the little dolphin which some times comes round into the bay. Guess what his name is? Its Fungi, ha ha! ) Fungi the dolphin. Poor. Kerry is gaunt, granite ( I think) rock faces, sheep, miles of hedgerows and fuscia, sea roads winding their way along. Bit like the countryside in that film with John Wayne when he goes to Ireland and tries to marry a local girl. Brings out the philosopher in you as you stroll between village pubs. Other parts of Ireland are nice too though as well.

I love Ireland. I visited there for the first time last summer and spent a week on a very brief tour of the island. We started in Dublin and then took the bus down to Cork through Kilkenny, then the Ring of Kerry. It was so pretty, I just wished we had had more time to explore on our own and to do some hiking. We stayed in Killarney - I love Killarney.. it's such a charming place even with all the tourists.. We never made it to Kenmare but I would love to go back to that part of Ireland. It was so beautiful and so magical.

It is. I can't remember whether I've been to Killarney or not. I know there's a castle there which makes it seem familiar. As I live in London, I don't tend to stay in Dublin. There are probably as many Irish in London as Dublin (well OK not really, just feels like that. One of friends even still plays camogie in London). How Irish is that. Maybe I should get a hurling stick. My Dad still likes to play and he's 64.

I should say the thing about Ireland is the weather makes a great difference to the mood. When the sun shines, the hedgerows come alive with the breeze ruffling them. Then when the wind and rain come, a lowering atmosphere is created, bit like the film Jane Eyre, with Orson Welles (great film, I know I shouldn't admit being a chap and all that). Ahem but back to Ireland. Many a pub crawl is punctuated with waits in pubs for rain showers to pass. I find these changes of weather exciting, but that's because I'm on holiday over there. I like the rapidity of it all. It makes you take your chances when you can. One piece of advice I give myself is if you are going to trot around on foot, don't overburden yourself with arctic conditions clothing. You'll boil alive. An cheapo £10 pacamac and a jumper is better. Ireland isn't very cold (apart from last winter where it got to -20'C, or in Fahrenheit, -4078'F. Err I made that conversion up. Now let me see 'F= (9/5 'C) +32, so -20C = approx -4'F
