Does anyone else feel like Legolas never said anything... I dunno... really meaningful in the movies? I mean, I can recount a good load of "Captain Obvious" moments in Legolas' lines, but he never says anything, and when he does it's "a diversion" or "Goblins" or "crebain from Dunland!" I dunno. I may be just blind to something he does say, with the exception of the "You owe him your allegiance" bit. Feel free to *calmly* debate amongst thyselves.

Yeah. Legolas doesn't talk a lot. I wish he said more. In the books there was so much more to his character.

Ya, I also wish we could hear him siiiiiiiing! I mean, Tolkien frequently describes his beautiful, elvish voice in the books, but we never get to hear it!

To be honest, I don't really remember Legolas saying a lot in the books either. His behaviour is described several times, but there are just a few moments where he actually says something He does sing several times, but I think including all the songs would have made the movies even longer and therefore not suited for a big audience. But I agree with you, the things Legolas says in the movies are usually a bit obvious. He does get a bit more in-depth comments in the EE version though, but they are still rare

Well he does say some stuff but I agree that not a lot of it is actually important.

I really enjoy when Legolas explains the background story of the dead army that him, Gimli, & Aragorn are going to meet & recruit.Plus it is extremely important for all LOTR newcomers getting a 1st encounter with Tolkien thru Peter Jackson's movies.

Golumn has a good point. That explination was good.
Other than that, however, no.... He doesn't seem to say much of significants.
I always enjoyed his back and forth banter with Gimli but that is just side filler and such, not significant to the plot.

The one I can think of is when he is telling Gimli about the paths of the dead. I will have to think about if there are others.

Yeah. That is the most significant and neat thing I can think of from him.

Lack of Legolas dialogue, if nothing else, makes it really special when he does say something. Even if it's just stating the obvious I think he just doesn't waste words in the movies. In the books, he just kind of sang a lot of songs and talked about the legends of his people a lot. Any conversation he has with Gimli is really nice, though. Like when they are walking through Mina's Tirith in the beginning of last debate.

While PJ (not again! ) overdid it with the Leggy action scenes, at least he visually makes a point that JRRT once made, I think in a letter (@Elthir? HELP!), that Legolas was by far the most dangerous warrior of the fellowship, with his Elvish sight, reflexes, stamina, speed, agility and possibly also strength, that no one - including Boromir and even Aragorn (Gandalf is on an entirely different level) could have stood up to him in direct confrontation. Poor comparison, in some ways, but a 50 kilogram chimpanzee would (and has) mopped the floor with wrestlers up to the weight of 200 kilograms - with the chimpanzee having a mouth guard, otherwise it would have bitten the wrestler to death. They are, pound-for-pond, five times as powerful as we are (gorillas are estimated at seven times - and the big silver-backs weigh 500 pounds - nah, forget it ...), and they have four powerful hands ...
