yeah, let's see, when lizze was about...8, that would make Cap'n Jack...well, marooned 2 years before...right?...because Lizze says she saw the ship eight years ago, and it was already cursed, but the pirate in jail says that the Black Pearl has been attaking for 10 years, didn't he?.....and fromDMC we can conclude that Jack was Captian for two years before that so, he was made Captian when lizze (and Will) were about....FOUR YEARS OLD!...ok, that scares me Why are they kissing?!?! I still can't find much of a reason for lizze to trust Jack, much less kiss him, Imean, didn't Jack say thet Lizzie and Dear William were Betrothed? and wasn't lizzie upset about an interuption of the wedding, and then she goes off loving Jack, who can barley remember her name!...ok, I'll shut now, I'm sorry I was ranting like that oh, and on cuttler, or however you spell his name, tha would be...odd... but I gess I don't have as much against that as I do J/E, but I still think she needs Will, and only Will....besides "It would never have worked between us, darling" Remember?

Well, while Keira and Johnny are very far apart age-wise (he's old enough to be her father), Elizabeth and Jack aren't quite as much.
Elizabeth and Will were both 20 in CotBP. That would make them both 12 when Will was rescued, and 10 when the mutiny occured. Jones raised the Pearl (called the Wicked Wench up until that point) from the depths two years before that (after Beckett had it torched and sunk), which was when Jack made his deal with him. That would make Elizabeth and Will 8 at that time. We don't know exactly how long Jack was the captain of the Wench prior to that (as a merchant sailor), but he did become a captain at a pretty young age, and he didn't work for Beckett long before the incident. At best, I'd say he's about 15-17 years older than Elizabeth, which wasn't that uncommon in those days (James isn't much younger). So age isn't really an argument against J/E, though Johnny did comment that he felt like the "old perverted uncle" while shooting that scene and referred to it as nothing more than a stunt- you do it and get it over with.
If we're going to argue anti-J/E, let's just stick to the fact that she chained him to a bloody mast and left him to die so she could save Will.

Yeah, that about covers it. Don't know if there's much room for interpretation THERE, though of course I could be totally wrong...

I'm a die-hard W/E shipper. And more power to you, Altariel - but what makes me even more mad is that Titanic still beats both of them! And I'm sorry, but both RotK and DMC blast that absolutely out of the water. I do agree, however - if it had beat RotK I would have been mad. Very mad. I'm not too happy that some of the HP movies have beaten FotR and TTT, either.
You mean I'm not alone? YAY! Because I agree with all of that... *hugs Melda*
PotR, thank you for all that new information... and the age difference is certainly not my main objection to J/E, because back then even if a guy was like twenty years older than the girl it didn't matter much. I personally really don't see how anyone could want Jack and Elizabeth together though... it just doesn't work.

Nope, you're not alone But I hope AWE grosses big enough to beat out Titanic, it's held the spot for toooooo long.
I can see how someone would want them together - I mean, Jack's about as charismatic as it gets. Lots of people find Will boring, and if you're a Jack fan - well, there you go. I don't deny that something's there, either. I mean, you can only explain away the compass direction for so long, aye? But I definetely think there's more hope for W/E then J/E.

If you think I've got a lot of random trivia about PotC (which I've only been a fan of for about 3.5 years), you should see me with my first love, Star Wars, which I've been a major fan of for 9 years. Not only can I quote the movies by heart and name almost every major & minor character (and who played them), I'm an avid reader of any and all Expanded Universe novels and can name just about any EU character. I know all the major family trees, and can at least give a basic outline of Galatic history from about 1000 BBY to 100 ABY. I'm also in the process of teaching myself to read/write in Aurebesh (the written form of Basic). You ain't seen nothing yet. Yeah, I'm the same way. I'm not so much anti-J/E as I am pro-W/E. And actually, I don't really care who ends up where, as long as it stays true to the characters and the overall spirit of the films. If Ted & Terry can pull off Elizabeth running off with Barbossa while Will marries Tia and Jack elopes with a giant sea turtle and still keep it all true to the characters, more power to 'em. I may be a bit weirded out, but I'll live. (Yes, that's an exaggeration and I wouldn't really want that to happen).
So...yeah. I pretty much trust the writers to do what it is they do best. I'm just along for the ride.

I don't think I'm the same way. I mean, I think it would take quite a bit to win me over to J/E, and not only would they have to do it convincingly, they would have to provide satisfying closure for Will. And I'm a stickler for Will, because he is by far my favorite character. So I wouldn't be satisfied with a J/E ending in any way that I can think of, but I'm not Ted and Terry

I agree 100%. Completely. I don't trust Ted and Terry for everything; I don't approve of everything they did in DMC, after all. Pretty much for me, Will has to be happy in the end, or at least satisfied. At this point Elizabeth seems to be what will make him happy, which is the whole reason I ship W/E.
And PotR, I didn't know you were a SW freak, er, I mean fan... *back away slowly from PotR*

Okay, I have a bit to say... be prepared.

First, thanks for doing the math I had done before and was too lazy to do again, and yes, that is the quote I always remember when I watch that kiss. Johnny saying he felt like a preverted uncle. And you give dearest Lizzie too much credit. She chained him to save herself. I really doubt Will was in her mind while she was kissing Jack. Sure, she could say her motives were pure, she was trying to save dear William... but I don't think that'd be true. LadyOfRohan wrote: As long as Barbossa doesn't get killed off again...I'm OK
Don't even joke about that!!!! Sorry, Barbossa is the greatest character ever. Ha, potr would remember that obsession of mine (Barbossa's back) I hope he doesn't sacrifice himself for Jack, cause that would suck.

I believe the exact quote from the commentary is "Slake her lust, drown her guilt, and save the man she loves." Tar-Argetlam wrote: Don't even joke about that!!!! Aye, I share the same obsession. I am a shameless platonic Barbossa fangirl.

Agreed. I wouldn't have agreed with that a while back, but you've converted me.
