The problem is, everyone keeps going from how and why the husband did it rather than finding out how Stephanie knew. 
And no, the husband would NOT have murdered his wife anywhere BUT that cruise ship.

I am trying to think of something Stephanie would have learned from a relationship, and all of them I have thought of have been said no to. 
Is this really simple?
Am I getting somewhere with the fact that is HAD to be on that Cruise Ship?

Yes, it had to be on THAT cruise ship. Not just ANY cruise ship.
It's good to think of what Stephanie learned from the relationship, but maybe it's even more wise to find out what kind of relationship she had with Mr. Phillips.

She was having an affair with him.

He was her father.
No...I like the affair thing.
Stephanie knew because she was on the ship with Mr. & Mrs. Phillips...she was there when it happened. They recieved the newspaper ON the cruise ship. Because the cruise hadn't left port!

No, it doesn't... the time-length (could) and significant of this relationship determines how Stephanie knew.
