Yep, I'll agree Tur, and sorry LDM.

Um.. I typically go from easiest to hardest. Probably not the best way in the least. Sometimes I will not even post history right away, but have to think about it. I typically have a short history and expand on it later, but I am working on providing more history into the original bio.

I often find that if I expound too much on a character initially, it doesn't leave as much room for later, when their character is developing. Soo my thought process kinda goes...

1) I hunt for a while and play around with letters to get the right name, if I don't already have one (or use a random generator, get a basic idea, and switch around letters until I like it).

2) Age depends on how old other characters are - I like to go for older ones, relatively so, as it provides some balance, and I honestly don't see anyone younger than 19 or 20 doing much in a lot of the type of RPG I like to join.

3) Gender is mostly female, as I'm more comfortable with that.

4) Again, like age, if there are races to choose from I try not to pick one that's too exotic or unusual, relatively normal - it helps to avoid the Mary-Sue label.

5) As for history, it really tends to develop as the RPG goes, I only have a very vague idea at first.

6) With looks (you'll see a pattern here) I don't go for anything unusual, generally. I think it's the character of whoever you're playing that's interesting, and how they look isn't necessarily too important. Besides, I'm extremely leery of being labeled Mary-Sue in any case, so I try to stay away from anything really eye-catching - you know, flaming red hair, anything out of the realm of brown/black/blonde. That's not to say I never use it, I just try to make it seldom.

7) And of course, personality is a huge question mark until I've actually played the character :)

So...I guess my thought process kinda centers around originality, and playing a character whose personality type isn't already represented. Cause originality is good :)

Meldawen's process describes how I create a char too... except for the fact that background is usually TBA unless it's a character I've played alot. In which case I just copy the same history and alter it to fit whatever plot the RP has.

It's a lot easier than having to create new histories all of the time. Usually I have one character for each catagory (Lotr, PotC, Real Life, etc.) and just use them.

On occasion I will make up new characters, but I find them weaker when I play them compared to ones I've played more.

Hm... my process is simple... though... I'm not so sure.

Usually if I have a name I like, I use it in alot of rpgs! For example: Aaron, Annalett, Louy... Though I may have alot of other names... some exodic, others not. The strangest name I'm using for a character in an rpg right now would be Johnorath... lol. That would come from John, and Norath put together(Norath from "Champions of Norath" PS2 game)

Also, my looks are usually the same... most my females are redheads... not flaiming red hair, but normal orange locks! That would probably be out of my own image... I'm a redhead myself. My males are either blonde, or have black/dark brown hair.

I never really like to put persinality... that way I could build on the character. Every now and then I might...

Gender varies... I like to help keep the boy/girl ratio even... I mostly like to play females, but if I feel I must, I will play a male character.

Race... I like to stick to plain old humans... unless the rpg calls for another race like "One last stand" or "War of the Kyn"

For age I usually go between 13-30(that just reminded me of the movie "13 going on 30" lol). Again, it depends on the rpg.

History is probably the one thing I have the hardest time with. So usually I leave History for last and/or make it as I go along so that it can... oh whats the word... contribute to the rpg.

So, yeah! That would be how I make a character!

Yeah! Though, when you have two to three characters you play in one rpg, it's hard having each of them have a different persionality... So usually I make them opposites.

^ Agreed. It's easier with only one so you can really put all you got into that charactor...*shrug*

A lot of the time when I play two characters they're male and female, as opposed to a pair of females or a pair of males, so that makes it easier for personality to be distinct. For example, in Phantom Grey I'm playing the Phantom and Eledhe, who are two extremely different people to start with, so it's not very hard. A lot of other RPGs in which I have more than one character are ones in which I'm playing canon characters, which generally have personalities already established. It's harder to get a canon character's personality accurate a lot of the time, but it makes it so that your characters aren't too similar, at least. In Oracle of Delphi I have Will and Will the 3rd, in Crossover I have Elizabeth, Sam, Legolas...etc.

I also find that's it's easier to play two if you know their personalities really well already, so that they don't really take on each other's qualities. I could play Merrin and a second character (male or female) no problem, because I know her probably best out of all my characters. Granted, I know her so well that every post for her ends up being three or four paragraphs, so another character would make really long posts, but what the hey :)

I usually only play one character, but when i do play 2 characters I make one kind of hard (personality wise) and one who's a complete idiot and very funny... I could probably still dig up some posts that almost had LDM wetting her pants with laughter... and im just gonna hope she doesn't read this post :D
There sometimes is age difference.

but multiple characters do get long posts... :S
