I've noticed the average post-lenght in Crystal is increasing. Melda and LDM, you're actually making posts as long as my Adanil posts--some of them are even longer. w00t for you.

My posts kinda weirdly...grow. I never start out with the intention of making them very long, but they extend themselves a lot. I think maybe it happens with characters you've been playing a while - they become second nature to you, so you can go into detail with them a lot.
Thoughts, anyone?

Lol--that's definitely how it goes for me, Melda, though it happens with all of my characters, not just the ones that I've been playing for a while.
Gah--sorry for not posting in Crystal yesterday. I got bogged down with something my mom asked me to do after school, and IMHO, a Crystal post is not something to rush.

lol your banner, NR.
yipes! *nobody* has been posting anything. I admit I've been slightly lax... I am going to gamble and put up a new RP. Melda has a place reserved. I have the final say in any disputes. *evil laugh*

@ Mel-I think you post do tend to grow, but in a good way. They are always amazing!

Aww, fankoo, Tur
We need a discussion topic! *Waves the 'discussion topic' flag* Let's see...we've done favorite genre of rpg...we've done favorite character...we're done favorite RPG...
Okay, what about - who was the first character you ever had, and do you still use them?
Mine was a hobbit named Miruvor when I first started RPing four years ago. At that point I did mostly LotR, and my four other characters that followed were all, of course, hopeless Mary-Sues. I haven't LotR RPed in quite some time, and my oldest character as of now is Merrin, who I've used for...ten months-ish.

You are most welcome!
Mine would have to be my char Turwaithiel, in an RPG created in which Sam the Brave was a hobbit, Captain Faramir was the lead guy, and Rhavanial was another elf. It was already started and I kinda jumped in. (with permission, of course.) lol I have to say that the RPG died, and I really wish that we could have finished it. It was really cool.

This is my bio from, I think, the very first RP I joined.
Name: Windna, but goes by Wind
Age: 19
Race: Rohirric
Appearance: Tall, lean, and muscular. Short red hair, green eyes. Has a scar on her left cheekbone.
Personality: An "all-business" type. She's pretty much living to fight right now. Cares for her friends and tries to protect them, but doesn't show it very much. Quick-tempered. Tends to hide her emotions behind a tough, somewhat uncaring attitude. Sometimes slips into quiet moods when she won't talk to anyone.
Horse: Miroc, a silver and black mare
Clothes: Wears Rohan armor a lot.
Weapons: A sword and dagger, both in plain leather scabbards. Carries a bow and arrows too
Hm... a young woman named "Wind", with red hair and a scar, tomboyish, wears armor and fights. Not Mary-Sue-ish at all! *cough*

Lol...my first character was an embarassment, from years ago. He was a Jedi with the excruciating name of Krandai Ekrelianen. >_< I hate his guts.
After that was a character named Ecthelion, who was a Noldor, and he was rather more than a little bit Marty-Samish, though I also had another character in that RPG whose name I don't remember, and he was cooler--he died. It was a great RPG death, though, fighting quite a few orcs. Unfortunately, he was also Marty-Samish.
And then those two characters were followed by others of lesser MSishness. Those first ones were years ago, though.

^One thing, you wouldn't have to put it in her bio, but bring it up as you RP, is why she's evil. Did she get hurt by somebody and decided to shut people out... did she want power, or money, or... Well, there are lots of reasons.
Another thing- when you're playing the charrie, she doesn't have to be constantly evil, if that makes sense. She could act like a pretty normal person most of the time, but be pretty dang mean when it comes to fighting, ya know? lol

I understand about having to choose sides- if you wanted to, you could work her story out through flashbacks, or dialog. That sort of thing.

Cool character, Aerlinniel.
Hmm....since there doesn't seem to be any group topic right now, here's one: What are your favorite character names? It applies both to characters that you have had in the past (or have now) or ones that are slowly forming in the fringes of your consciousness.
My favorite names for my characters are Ayden, Jhoran, Arren, and Fionn. I notice that they all end in 'n'.

My female names have a strange tendency to end in -rin or -ryn. And even my male names - as in Phaerin, Merrin, Silvryn, Rhaeryn. I'd agree, Reindeer, that a lot of my favorite names end in N, too. Not all by far, cause I also have Jada, Nakaida, Adellis, Eledhe, Mirrim, recently Aelie...but it's interesting to contemplate.
And also, are names often spontaneous for people? Or do you do a lot of searching around for one? Generally when mine are spontaneous I later find they're very similar to a name I already knew. For example, Nakaida was subconsciously based on the composer of a piano piece I was playing (Yoshinao Nakada), and I'm pretty sure Merrin is a manipulation of Erin, which is my friend's name...actually, I don't think any of my names are completely original besides possibly Eledhe.

Here are some of my favorite male names- Braad (pronounced Bray-ad), Solech, Rhalen, Paloc, and Eshtok. I've used Eshtok for three different characters- and counting! lol My favorite male name is Cu'scath. It's a bit awkward to say outloud, but I love the way it looks in print, for some reason! lol
Female names, I don't have as many of those. My favorite would be Sorcha, which is actually a Scottish name I used in a fantasy RP.
As far as choosing names goes, I think most I came up with just by playing with letters, or by using a name generator. A few are names I came up with a while back for a novel I never wrote. (Might as well put them to some use! lol) I don't usually come up with names spontaneously.

Lol, Aerlinniel.. Sterre from The Battle of Mercadova, I'm guessing. Don't worry about it - you're going to do great. I can help you out a bit - I've had some experience playing evil characters.
As for the names, I love really anything mystical sounding... right now I'm playing a character by the name of Malachi, a name I absolutely adore, and any weird spellings of names. Some female names I like are Avadela, Tarynn, Tara, and tons more.
@Meldawen - Yes, sometimes I refer to generators if I have a brain block.

Most of the names that I use are either real names, real names that I've slightly altered, or names I just stole from another source (like a novel or something). I never use name generators. I also don't really type random keys, either.
Actually, my favorite character surname--Fahl--came from 'Richard Rahl' from The Sword of Truth series, which I haven't actually read, but I've read about. I just thought that the name 'Rahl' would look way cooler with an 'F' at the start. 'Fahl' is definitely my favorite surname so far.
Arren, Fionn, and Ayden are all real names or variations of them. Actually, I stole Arren from somewhere, but I think it's a real name, and Fionn is of Welsh origin (I think) and Ayden is....Irish or something. Celtic, at any rate.
Jhoran is actually one of the few that just sprung into my mind like that, without any source, so far as I can tell. I can't think of anything that would've influenced me to make a name like that.
