Quick reminder, the club here was originally started to talk about actual, historical pirates. So if we could take the convo in a general that way direction, it would be much obliged. =]

I believe I still do. =] Love the new name, btw. =]
Real pirates, correct, that or the hard facts for your PotC fanfiction. That works too.
And the occasional dash of Jack, seeing as he's our mascot. =]

good, I'm happy you do! And thanks!
well, the facts about pirates (and the 18th century in general) are some things I love! Things back then are so interesting.... the fashion, living and everything. and the piratelife wasn't quite as perfect as it's sometimes shown... although I personally think they did a pretty good job showing it wasn't ALL fun and games in PotC. anyway, enough rambling....

Ahh, the rum! drink up!
A note about the pirate fashion... I recently read that the image we've been painted from cinema is way wrong, and that pirates more often then not didn't dress as scoundrels and rogues, but like gentlemen. You know, golden and silver cuff links, silk socks, golden or silver buckles on fine leather shoes, finely woven shirts with nice jackets... All that jazz. Interesting, no?
Kind of makes you wonder where on earth Jack's attire came from, doesn't it?

hmmm, that is an interesting fact! I think I'ver heard it before but that doesn't matter! I wonder where the tradition to make pirates dress like scoundrels and, well, like Jack first came from? who thought it up first? hmmmm so many questions...

Aye, welcome aboard, mate! drink up! *gives some rum you some run*
@Callonial: Who did think of it first? I think it might have been authors who hadn't ever met a pirate, but only heard stories. I'm sure there were some who were vicious cut throats and dressed up in their swag, but for the most part? I don't think you could have distinguished a pirate from a gentleman in a crowded room. =]

Thankies! *Drinks deeply*
^I read a book about some of the most blood-thirty pirates. Some were absolute tyrants. For instance, Black Beard would tear the heart out of one of the prisoners and make the other eat it. But those where some of the most severe. It was remarked about many pirates that they were in fact perfect gentleman and very charming in many cases.

^Sarien, I'm in love with the avvie. and the banner. Draco/Tom... ugh, sexy.
ANYWAY, *lol* I highly doubt that Black Beard was that ruthless; even cut throats have standards. It could, however, be popular legend. =]
