Yeah, we are going a bit fast.

Hm... I just made awards for JF, and I am now heading off to make my awards. In addition, I should be continuing my Movie Quote contest. I just need to think of a good movie quote.

The last one is so pretty! I think I will use that one.

For contests, do you think it is better if the people entering just PM you the graphic?

Yeah, but that quote really isn't that universal.

The last quote actually has "she" in place of the "you" in the film, but later on part of that quote is used with the "you", so I think you can get away with the very slightly altered version, unless you want it to be a man saying it of a female in which case, make it "she".

I got a whole bunch more if anyone needs them. :D

I think it depends on the contest to be honest. And most contests don't allow voters to vote anyway, and I doubt many people look in on a contest to see who has entered what, so if you wanted it to be anon, just don't use the contestant's name. I think PM'ing entries might put people off if too many contests do it.

Well I was thinking it would give people an opportunity to show modes of transport that don't involve cars and things.

That is true. I didn't think of the other modes of transport.

I understand, I will probably just make them anonymous then.. better idea.

How many people will enter if I used the "roads" quote?

Going a bit fast, huh, Smeag? lol ;) so what's this about a movie quote contest? But then I would have to think to enter, right? I would have to think of something unique to make for it.... :hide:

contests with just PMed-in entries? Well, I think JF had the best answer for that, but personally I like the threads and such started for contests... I dunno, it's just fun to see what others have come up with and the whole basic atmosphere of them. Not to mention it is still pretty easy to tell who made what just by each person's style.... :teehee: or maybe I'm the only one who looks that deeply into it... :erm:

Yeah, being able to tell who made what is another objection I have. The only difference right now will be the photography contests because that hasn't been a big thing around here, photos.

I am not sure what you mean by going too fast. These both are contests I have had for over half a year. I just have been too lazy to update them.

But why does it really matter? I guess other than people voting with a bias... :erm: But there really is no way of changing it for the people who've been around some of the graphics maker's graphics. Everyone has a style and you can't really change that. :erm: (why do I feel like a very ignorant newbie all of a sudden?)

I was referring to the Graphic Maker's Union moving fast. :teehee: ;)

Yeah, you are right. There really is not a way to change someone voting with a bias if they really want to. However, I really don't think we have a real problem with that here.

Hmm.. we should probably start a new discussion for all of the people out there that want to improve.

What are good ways just to improve your graphic making abilites besides just practicing?

Very true.

I would say:
- Browsing in Galleries
- Graphic Battles
- Contests
- Experimenting

No, no, I don't think we have a huge problem with people voting with biases either. The contests all seem to go pretty well as far as that's concerned, happily.

ways to improve your graphics making abilities?
well, certainly practice is the biggest thing but since we can't use that... :erm: yeah, I would have to say I agree with you on the browsing galleries. Look at what other people have done and try to figure out how they do it. That helps a LOT. and contests are great help too... and experimenting is probalby the biggest help!

Here is another point for knowing when you are improving. You don't like your graphic. I know that sounds a bit ironic, but it really is true. If you are able to look at your graphic and be like "Uh.. that looks horrible" that means you are developing an artistic eye which is a really huge criteria in graphic making.

I have been wondering if anyone would like to do a graphic cook-out week. Where the whole week is spent working to see how many graphics each graphic maker can make.

Still on the topic of contests. I actually don't think we have a problem with biased voting on here, and some people do have a distinctive style, so making it anon won't really help solve the problem of people voting for their favourites anyway. However, I do actually like voting anonoymously anyway as it just makes it a little different. Submitting through PM's though. the only reason I'm doing it that way for the Photography Contest is I really don't want people choosing a photo taken by a good graphics maker on the basis they took it so it must be good.

Entering contests is a really good way to gain experience. I would say even more so than having a claim. There's no way I would have started a claim with my early pieces, not until I had some sort of skill coming along. :teehee:

I would LOVE to do something like smeag.... but I am so slow, it's not even worth mentioning. Alas, if only this had been for the week gone, I would have had much to show, but I doubt my graphics-high will last much longer. :P
