Okay, just back from seeing it. Completely without reservations - I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

And...spoilers ahead.

I cried at the end. I'm not really sure why, they all left through the door and Susan and Caspian and through the whole movie I was remembering how Susan doesn't get to come back. I felt sorry for Peter, and sad for everyone, and sad just purely because it was over. I wanted it to keep going.

So it's not a movie to please book purists, I don't think, but I adored every minute of it. The plot was well put together, the effects were SPECTACULAR, and I loooove my swordplay. The tension between Peter and Caspian was very well done, I'm glad they added it. Peter's changed a lot...I identify with him so much, probably the most out of the Pevensies. And Susan was fighting and everything! For me the whole movie was so bittersweet, knowing that Susan doesn't come back. I think that was one of the bigger reasons I cried. And, oh my goodness, Edmund. LOVE. He had funny lines and yet he was epic and I pretty much adored him. I think I love Edmund most. Lucy looked so much older! I hardly even remembered how little she was in LWW, and now she's so BIG, and...gah. I loved her, still.

Caspian gets his own paragraph. Okay, I know I'm such a girl, but I adored Caspian. His accent was SO cool, and I felt as thought his personality was so much deeper than it is in the books. The Peter/Caspian tension somewhat helped. I was on the edge of my seat when they did the whole thing with the Witch! DON'T DO IT, Caspian! Gosh, I'm so glad we get more of him in Voyage of the Dawn Treader. I loved him, so much. And the end! When Aslan said "Rise, Kings and Queen of Narnia" and Caspian didn't rise, and I just....awwww.

Awww, and Reepicheep! He'd kill me for saying it, but ADORABLE. I loved the end, where he was upset about his tail. Trumpkin was priceless. I was so happy they kept the Dear Little Friend joke. Centaurs were amazing. I did miss Mr Tumnus.

And the music! I must own this soundtrack. I MUST.

*flops down onto bed feeling slightly drained* Very, very, epic. Like, ten million stars out of ten.

EDIT:

Um, yes. If everyone else will excuse me - SO stupid. And before Prince Caspian? I was really not impressed. I did like the preview for Ember, though, and Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Maybe I'm just REALLY not a chihuahua person. Blech.

Yeah with Caspian not rising with the others, I was like, aww. He's ready to be King. Also I noticed earlier when the five of them reach Aslan's How and the centaurs make a pathway/cross swords for them, the Pevensies just go right on and Caspian stands there for a moment longer.

Music: Yes the music is lovely! I loved the song playing at the end as they're leaving- Regina Spektor. Bittersweet. Also a short interesting sound- during the day battle at the How- when Susan et al release the arrows and they go sailing through the air, it's a brief break from the louder/slightly bombastic battle music, this trill to go along with soaring arrows. I thought it sounded cool, but that's the music geek in me.

LOL at the chihuahua thing. I keep watching the preview (found it on the internet) and each time I do, it just gets funnier. I'm sitting there thinking, what the...?? Who thought this up? And all the while, I'm laughing my head off.

There was a trailer for Wall-E, but I don't remember one for Bolt.

Oh dear... Yes, the chihuahua preview.... Ug. Really, who comes up with such ideas?! Whoever they are, I question their sanity... If that preview is anything to go by, it's going to be a stupid movie.

We had a trailer for Wall-E! It looks awesome. We also had one for the new Mummy movie... weird.
I'm jealous of those who had the trailer for The City of Ember. That's one of my all-time favorite novels, and I cannot wait for the movie.
Also, the Chihuahua thing was absolutely terrifying.

I'm hoping to have my full review of the actual movie up soon...

yeah, the Chihuaha preview....*runs and hides*

my review is as follows below *possible spoilers and Christian thoughts; read at your own risk. :)*

oh boy, where do I start?! First off, the entire film was just amazing. I became so absorbed in it from minute one. The whole start of the film is very fast-paced and exciting. The whole film was, and I felt like there wasn't enough, lol. Now I just want to go back and see it millions of times over.

Secondly, the cast did an awesome job. However, with Queen Prunaprismia. Didn't she have RED hair in the book? And, what is with the Telmarines' having a Spanish leaning??? I mean, other than Queen P. the Telmarines' were fine.

The looks were okay, the accents related too much to Earth, but I guess since the Telmarines' came to Narnia from our world, they could have spanish influences *shrugs*

anywhoo, on to the actual film itself. Aslan was GIGANTIC, even bigger than film 1. HIs and Lucy's interaction had to be some of the most touching moments in the movie.

*there could be spoilers below, so don't read if you haven't seen the film yet, or read at your own risk*

Susan-Caspian flirtation and relationship: not bad at all.

It was well-handled, and I think the flirtation made sense *come on, Ben barnes is so hot!*

the Peter vs. Caspian thing: also well-done. I think that it was more realistic for Peter to be the more jealous, "selfish" type of person since he had to come to grips with the fact that he WASN'T the hIgh King anymore; Caspian was heir to the throne.

the Narnians: wow, they look much better in this film than LWW. I thought Reepicheep and Pattertwig were so awesome. Especially Reep and two of his mice tying up a cat in the castle! Priceless! One heart-wrenching moment, though, was when after the raid in the castle, Peter, Caspian, Susan, and some of the other Narnians made it out of the castle alive, but a lot didn't. They were trapped behind the gate, and Peter watched helplessly as all of them were shot with arrows. It was especially heartwrenching to watch Glenstorm's wife realize she had lost one or more of her sons in the battle.

the appearance of the White Witch: really surprised it was as short as it was. I think I would have preferred to see the hag, wer-wolf, added in more and for a logner period of time. OH well, can't have everything, can we? anyway, back to the WW: the hag summoned up the WW and she appeared in a sheet of ice. She summoned Caspian to give her some of his blood in order to release her from her prison. Peter, Lucy, *possibly Susan* arrive underground *they had been there for a while anyway* and Peter stops caspian, but then the WW calls to Peter and it seems like he too is in a trance. Just when you think all is lost, the WW acts like she's been stabbed and the ice shatters, revealing Edmund to have stabbed the sheet of ice from the back.

Poetic justice, don't you think?

overalll, the film and score was amazing, and the effects equally so.

I can't wait to see the movie again

On to the allegories: certainly NOT as obvious as LWW, but there nonetheless. Something that struck me especially: in the scene mentioned above, there is a Portrait of aslan on the back wall, which, when the ice was shattered, Peter saw it. Isn't it true for us? when we take our own eyes of Christ, and focus it on the world, we get into trouble. We'll even do things we wouldn't normally do because we're relying on our own strength and not on God's timing and His strength. It's true for the world. The world *America in particular*; or rather the inhabitants, have taken their eyes off Christ and focused it on other things *i.e. other religions, alcohol, sex, drugs, etc...*

In the book, there's a line: "But she forgot them when Lucy fixed her eyes on Aslan." How much more do we need to fix our eyes on Aslan, Jesus Christ. Once we take our eyes off him, we too will fall into darkness, just as Narnia fell when the Pevensies went back to their own world and the citizens turned away from their belief in Aslan.

*walks in, excited from watching the movie.*

CAUTION - SPOILERS (Highlight to read.)

Wow.

The movie was incredible. So much better than I imagined. The cast was incredible, and the acting and directing brilliant. It was very well made.

I loved the Peter - Caspian battle, and I also love how they come back together after the outcome from the 'storming of the castle.' I also was very excited when Peter fought the King - It was a great scene and it was very well done.

I also loved how in the final battle, the interaction with nature and Narnians vs. humans. I loved how they brought the trees in and used the attack from underground against the Telmarines', meanwhile, the Telmarines were using more "advanced" weapons like Catapluts. I liked how they showed that. And then the water. The way they showed it and the man inside it, it was incredible. So real.

And my other favorite part of the movie was when Peter and the others just escape the Castle and Peter looks back and sees the rest of the warriors. It was such a sad and touching moment, that is why I loved it. I hated that it happened, (I even started crying as tears whelled up in Peters eyes), but I feel that is when Peter realized that it wasn't going to be like he thought, and so much had really changed. I think he started to try and understand, but he was also struggling with the fact that he wasn't King anymore, and he wouldn't be again.

And Caspian = Susan. I swear, she is one lucky girl to get to work with Ben and then kiss him. And then working with William too! Can I say jealous? :swoon:

All in all, the movie was incredible and I can't wait to go and see it again Wednesday. :)

Bravo, Petra! I can't agree more. Lol, I loved how huge Aslan was! I wanted to give him a ginormus hug!

One of my favorite lines from this movie was after the battle, when the Pevensies (save Lucy) are bowing to Aslan.

"Rise, Kings and Queens of Narnia." Caspian doesn't move, and Aslan smiles. "All of you."

It made me smile! Another 'Aww!' moment was when Caspian and the Pevensies are entering the How, and the Centaurs are saluting. Amoung the line is a younger centaur. His arm is too low, and so one of the elder ones lifts his arm up. So adorable! I want to know who wrote that scene. :P

Well, bother. I'm raving already. I suppose I'll just make this a formal review.

**WARNING!** Spoilers and Christian thought!

Aslan: Still my favorite character. Is it just me, or did WETA revise his eyes? Whatever they did, it looks amazing. :D I loved how he was bigger in this movie, and my absolute favorite change - he is smiling! Alot, too. Sure, he smiled a few times in LWW, but he's smiling all the time in this one, and it's contageous! I was smiling through practically all of his scenes. The only think I have against Aslan (really, more against the screenplay) is when Lucy meets him. The dream sequence was a bit strange, and left me hanging for a while. But, when Aslan repeated the line "Nothing ever happens the same way twice, dear one." when Lucy really meets him, it rounded it all off, and left a nicer impression. And, lastly, Liam Neeson is, once again, the perfect choice for Aslan.

Lucy: Goodness gracious, when did Georgie grow up?! She's drop-dead gorgeous for her age, and she's still the most talented actress of her age, I think. Lucy's interaction with Aslan was definetly my favorite part of this movie. I also loved her friendship with Trumpkin; when she hugged him at the end, the large majority of the theater was 'aww'ing. I also loved her innocent, yet strong faith in Aslan. It just goes to show that innocent, blind faith pulls through in the end. ;)

Edmund: I believe this young boy has now stolen the place of my favorite Pevensie. Skandar, and thus Edmund, has really grown up, and not just in stature. I believe that from all of the Pevensies, the change from being/ruling in Narnia for fifteen years shows through the most in Edmund. He is always there for Peter and his sisters, and, even though he never gets any credit, he doesn't complain. He doesn't get big-headed or prideful. I thought it was a wonderful touch that Edmund was the one to break the sheet of ice in the White Witch scene.

Peter: A nice, well-rounded character in this movie. I liked it alot when he was giving Edmund credit in the duel scene. Ah, brotherly love. Though I would've liked to have seen more interaction between him and Aslan at the end. After all, he was basically like 'ditch Aslan' for the larger part of the movie. They needed to talk. Over all, William did a great job with Peter, especially in his struggle to be King again.

Susan: Well, She's still my least favorite Pevensie, but maybe I'm a little biased. She was very nice in this one. I was afraid that her involvment in battle was going to be very Mary-Sue, but I was happy to find that her role wasn't over-emphesised, and that the magority of the credit went to the boys. I also loved the scene where Susan is talking to Lucy during the night. Unlike LWW, where Lucy is her baby sister, Susan and Lucy are now more of equals. I loved that. And as a last note, I want her dress.

Caspian: What can I say? Ben Barnes is an amazing actor. Especially considering how few roles he's had (yes, I know he has a theater background) in movies. I was a little nervous, I must say, when I learned that a Brit actor was doing a Spanish accent. But, I was very, very pleased with his accent. No faults that I could detect, really. Caspian was very nice, and I could see very clearly his process of learning to become a leader. Though Barnes has now ruined my image of Caspian, as he has wavy dark hair instead of curly blond hair. But I think I actually like dark-haired Caspian better. I think I would also do just about anything to have his sword. It's amazing.

Caspian/Susan: Actually, I could barely detect this. I was fuming, practially, when I first learned that there would be a kiss. But, like many of you have already said, I thought this was handled very well. Only a few flirting here and there, and it was not very emphesized. And, as several people predicted, it was a farewell kiss. And very well-handled.

Caspian/Peter rivalry: Yet another thing that was handled well. I was a bit afraid that they would outright hate each other, but, by the end, they were working together happily, and I was very pleased. The only thing that dissapoints me in this aspect is that they over looked one thing that I would've loved to have seen. In the book, Caspian is practically worshiping Peter (Well, that's how I saw it.) because the High King Peter is his hero. Ever since his childhood, Caspian has heard stories of him, and, as I pictured it, he 'wanted to be like him when he grew up'. I would've liked to have seen a bit more friendly interaction between the two.

White Witch Scene: One word - Wow. Yes, it was very different from the book, but really, I thought it was nigh perfect. I loved the werewolf and the hag, and the werewolf's voice sent shivers down my spine. The fighting was great, and Barnes (And Mosley) did wonderful jobs acting as if in a trance. Special Kudos to Ben for when Nickabrick is forcing him into the circle. Very well done. And, one last huge congrats to the digital artists, because the CG work on the White Witch was flawless. I swear, I thought it was Swinton, not CG work. Amazing.

Reepicheep: Most definetly the funniest character of the bunch. I adore this mouse! He stole every scene that he was in, and made me laugh on several occations - one of my favorite lines: "You people have no imagination!" I was also very pleased with his interaction with Aslan at the end. A very nice, hilarious character.

Other: Trumpkin! Trumpkin was great! As I said before, I love his friendship with Lucy, and the 'DLF'. That made me giggle. He was a very clearly-portrayed doubting thomas figure, and I loved it when Aslan roared at him at the end. His face was great after that. Dinklage was a wonderful choice for our favorite grumpy dwarf. Though we all know that Trumpkin's a softie on the inside.

I also love Glenstorm - very well done. When the troops were forced to leave his sons and the Narnians behind, I was close to tears. That was the most heart-wrenching scene I've seen in a long, long time. Perhaps equally as sad was when Glenstorm's wife learned that her sons were dead.

Over all, The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, was a very, very good movie. I loved every bit of it, and hope to see it again in the near future. Well done, cast and crew!

I haven't seen the film yet and won't be able to until early July (when it comes out there) so I'm gonna have to skip past the latest conversations as I don't want spoilers.

pirateoftherings wrote:
I think you should listen again, Eru.

The first time I listened, I wasn't paying really close attention either, and I thought much the same thing. A bit of new stuff, but not that much. The second time, though...wow. I must've been more distracted than I thought, because there really is a good bit of new stuff in there. Like the beginning of Battle at Aslan's How - that's a brand-new theme used for Miraz and his army. It's actually probably my favorite theme on the whole soundtrack. The strings and the percussion and....gah. *dies*

LOL ok I'll have to listen to it again then. I must have been really distracted, haha.

pirateoftherings wrote:
Anywho, yeah, there is actually a fair amount of new stuff, though Harry did obviously recycle some themes, but it makes sense to do so. LWW and PC are part of the same series, so it would be pointless to come up with completely new themes every time. I mean, would you want Jack Sparrow to have a different theme in all three of the PotC movies?

I know, I didn't mean that Harry should have written a completely new score, recycling is essential when scoring a film series like Narnia because people need to be familiar with the music and each character/location usually has their own unique theme which needs to be repeated throughout the film series. But, he could at least have given them a new treatment - arranged them a bit different so that it doesn't sound like a complete rip-off from the LWW soundtrack. Because that's exactly what it sounded like, like Harry had taken out his LWW CD and ripped those parts and just stuck them right in there.

pirateoftherings wrote:
...Wow. So maybe I'm just a little bit passionate about this soundtrack. :innocent: But that alone should prove what a second chance can do to it. I've fallen more in love with it every time I've listened, and I suspect that I'll like it even more after I go see the movie tomorrow night and have specific scenes to assosciate with the new themes. As of right now, I'm mostly speculating concerning to whom each new theme belongs, based on book knowledge.

Don't worry. I'm passionate about soundtracks too. I'm an absolutely movie score geek and nerd! I remember before LWW came out, I had listened to the soundtrack so much that I knew it by heart so when I finally went and saw the film it was great because as I was hearing the opening notes to the various tracks I was like "ah here comes the White Witch!" or "here comes The Battle!". It was good fun.

pirateoftherings wrote:
Oh, and I'm currently in the process of writing a review/analysis of the whole soundtrack for someone else, if any of y'all are interested in the ramblings of a music nerd. :teehee:

Sure, bring it on! :D

Thanks for the Wall-E preview. I hope Bolt's trailer shows with Wall-E!

It seems that the film was very good.
Where there any scenes that reminded you of other Disney films?
Disney does cameos a lot.

Ugh, I am so happy someone else mentioned the Chihuahua preview! :hide: that thing scared me! At first I thought it was just a joke and not a real movie... too bad it wasn't. ;)

anyway, it seems as though everyone pretty much agrees on this film. lol I've read through most all of the reviews and it seems as though we all love the same additions and Edmund and Reep and everything. Bravo! I'm really pleased everyone likes it! I guess all that worrying was for nothing. :duh: :P

squee, and I just saw the commercial that's got LWW scenes in it... the one encouraging kids to read and go to new worlds, you know? :)

I want to go to Narnia! *pouts*

I'd try K-Mart. They had all the LWW figures, even though Wal-Mart didn't. Shocking.

But when all else fails...Ebay and other Merchandise websites! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

The Susan/Reepicheep pack will definitely be the first action figure pack I get if I get any.
