^ Haha, you can can join. :)

Somehow I don't feel so bad about fish. I don't really like the way it tastes, so I don't eat it all that often, but fish just don't seem the same as mammals.

Fish are yucky. Whenever I eat them (or whenever I used too eat them) I would get an impression of a big gray fish swimming around in dark water. *shivers* Maybe I just have a fear of fish.

I eat tuna all the time... I guess it's maybe because fish can be seemingly disgusting to me... dunno...

Can I join? :) I'm a sort-of vegetarian, I only eat meat about once a week when it's cooked for me 'cause I just hate eating it... But I eat fish...

Can I join as well?

I'm mostly vegetarian..it nearly killed me to eat neat for last week because I was at my cousins' and they normally cook meat and I couldn't say no. But I've been like on and off on the vegetarian diet for ages. I couldn't exactly devote myself to not eating meat until three weeks ago. But now since I had some meat, it tastes a bit weird...But I eat fish and seafood. I was born on a island so it's in my blood to eat fish. But not meat...no, no, no, no.

Yeah, all y'all can join. :)

I think most of us aren't strictly vegetarian, so I guess this club is really the Vegetarian-ish Club. :P

I gave a speech on vegetarianism yesterday at the my homeschool co-op's open house. Does anyone want to hear... er... read it?

Ok, here it is. (I quoted you, Shadowcat.)

Kindom Animalia: Friend or Food?
OR Save the Cows

Have you ever wondered what you can do to help improve the world and your own life expectancy? The course of action I am advising is as easy as planning ahead for the next meal. I am, in fact, about to explain the many benefits of not eating meat. There are many reasons to become a vegetarian, including, but not limited to, love of animals, health benefits, and economic reasons.

The first reason is a simple one. It is not eating meat because one loves animals. This is not to be confused with not eating meat because one believes one is descended from animals. This particular reason will probably not appeal to the hunters among us, so I will turn to the next reason.

Reason two, health, is abstaining from meat because one wishes to improve the quality of and lengthen one's life. With a properly planned vegetarian diet, it is possible to get all needed nutrients, while excluding the harmful substances found in meat, especially with animals that have had their diet packed full of antibiotics and hormones. In my own opinion it is easiest to do this with a lacto-ovo diet, eating both milk and eggs. With a stricter, animal products free diet it is harder but still possible to work all the required nutrients into the diet.

The third reason involves economics and is too complicated to explain fully in this speech. I will simplify it to saying that it takes more edible-for-humans food and water to make a pound of beef than it does to make a pound of food and water. Therefore, if raising of animals for meat is mostly eliminated, there will be more edible-for-humans food and water. Admittedly, one vegetarian will not make much of a difference, but every little bit helps.

In conclusion, I would like to quote an internet friend named Shadowcat on the subject. "You guys may like meat. You may like your bloody hunks of dead animal flesh."

I should probably mention that I got most of my information on the online encyclopedia, Wikipedia. So if anyone wants to check any of this out for themself, they'll know where to go. </speech>

I did not actually persuade anyone, but I got a reasonably big reception.

Hmmm, interesting speech, I have to say. There are, of course, a lot more reasons.

*is honored to be quoted*

:D

That's honestly my favourite thing to say when I'm in a vegetarian mode. Just the mental image that people get is enough to make them rethink their diet. :P

*agrees* Sadly, the format we (my public speaking class) were given only allowed three main points.

Ooh while we're on the topic of why become a vegetarian, why don't we discuss how we became vegetarians?

My reasons were actually quite simple. I just didn't like it. It tasted a bit odd for me than fish. Actually they both rather odd to me but meat more than fish. But I also became a vegetarian after reading that conditions farm animals are raised in. It's absolutely brutal what these animals have to go through. And I'm quite the animal lover (anyone in my real life will be shocked to hear that). And also, vegetarian diet is supposed to be healthy. In a book I read, one reason why most Americans are unhealthy compared to Japanese or Italians is that the abundance of red meat in their diet. That's about it for me.

I hate meat. That's basically it.
But I'll eat it sometimes, like last night we went to a Hot Pot with some friends and I had a lot of meat there (partially so I wouldn't be rude and partially because I was so hungry).

I don't like it. And I feel bad for the animals.

Particularly lamb and veal.

I became one because I love animals. Now that I am one, I have discovered many benefits (including a larger amount of control over my diet).
