Yeah, it's funny how some people are terrified to read long books! My friend loves LOTR, and she won't read the books because they're "too hard".

Oo, guilty! Three years ago my friend loaned me the books cuz I had to read them for school, and I was really impatient back then and I thought it was boring and I thought Frodo would never see Bilbo again so I gave up. Then I talked to him:

Friend: Do you like the lotr books?

Me: Wellllllllllll, no not really. I couldn't get into them.

Friend: WHAT?! (I can imagine why he was so indignant) Those books had me obsessed! I actually cried when Gandalf died!

Me: GANDALF DIES?!

Friend: Don't worry, he comes back to life.

Me: HE COMES BACK TO LIFE?!

Needless to say, I read those books and I'm glad I did! I'm a better person now.

Well one thing that I find really annoying is people who won't even bother reading the books because at first glance they look hard.

My generation is pathetically lazy.

I know! I have a one-volume paperback now, and I'm rereading it (for the fourth time) so I carry it around school. And I cannot count how many people have been like " BIG book! AAH run away!" :duh:

Yeah! Big books rule! It's so pathetic that some people in my grade still read little tiny 100 page or under books! We are in 9th grade, shouldn't we step up to books a bit more age appropriate?!

Exactly! Like LOTR! I love how I can look intelligent simply by carrying it around. :-D (Not that that's WHY I carry it around of course... :P)

Yeah, that and the fact that it's about wizards, and the bible says to keep away from wizards. They need to read the books and discover that the bible was talking about a totally different kind of wizard.

Exactly! I mean, it's not as if Gandalf actually uses that much magic. Sure, he knows how to light fireworks, and he knows how to open secret doors with passwords, but seriously. It's not as if he runs around with a wand casting spells at people...

Yep. I think evil magic is what the Bible wants us to "stay away from."

^ I don't know. :P But my cousin has been what people call a "witch" or a "sorceress" and I can tell you that is something completely different then what Gandalf, or even Harry Potter is...Real witches don't even have to use a wand...they don't go around shouting lighting laser-beam-like stuff out off a wand. That's just ridiculous. :P
Gandalf is nothing like a with or wizard in the way people here use the word. He's an Ainur right? So, ok, this is sounding weird, but he's more like an materialized angel than Harry Potter.
I hate it when people judge books 'cause they don't read them well, or are just prejuduiced... :(

Good point, you're right. :D

enlightenment is always a good thing.. :-D
then again what you do with it, that´s quite a different matter..
non-ringers usually don´t know what they are talking about
..they´ve heard some things, seen some things,
but don´t have any interest in understanding the whole picture :disgust:
..it´s a take it or leave it kind of situation..
and personally, I prefere to leave it, you know, less grief :)

What bothers me isn't non ringers and their comments so much. They're idiots whom i ignore but occasionally love to prove wrong. What bothers me more is people who you are friends with and can't support your obsession but expect you to support theirs. I have a friend who never read the books, never even saw the movies and complains every time I go into an LotR ranting/obsessing mode. However, she expects me to be 100% interested in her new manga (she's still big into anime and manga and [because of her] I'm not anymore...can't stand the stuff)
