Most people who say that have absolutely no respect for what Tolkien did.
I can only agree. I remember someone saying that to me and I just thought: that maybe is even worse than someone who just ignores LotR and is not interested in it. I also don't like it when people say that PJ was more a genius than Tolkien was, because you can't compare them. PJ is a director and Tolkien was the author of LotR.

Exactly. Yes the moives are amazing, but without the books there would be no amazing moives! It scares me how totally oblivious some people can be.......

Weeeeeeeeeell... he's tall, kind of skinny, but not like a stick. Very long legs and arms, lightly muscled (that sounds weird... just not like really muscular, but not like a weakling, either). He's got a long-ish nose... his face is kind of angular, kind of not, a bit round-ish. His hair - brown, his comes down to the end of his forehead, and then to the base of his neck, little shorter. It's cut in a way that it looks nice, though, not like some sort of emo-skater dude cut.
See? When I try to explain... he sounds like a freak.

a) Legolas is a bit girly...but still hot
b) i woul luuuuv to see two gay elves snogging...maybe Leggy and Haldir(?can't think of another guy...ahhhhh)
c) I'v always loved guys with long hair. I mean in Oxford most private school boys have kinda curly but not hair to thier shoulders. But i really likea guy with ahir to his waist.
d) i'v come to terms with the stupidity or non-ringers...eventually.

I've called Legolas a pretty boy. (A little voice in my head chims "because he is!") He has long blonde hair which he wears loose and it stays neat without him brushing it every other second. Since that's what I'd have to do if I tried to impersonate him. But it's not a criticism on LotR, the films or the books, and I don't see Legolas as being girly as a result.
So I'd say it's not what you say so much as why you say it... but I'm lucky because I haven't had to deal with much LotR bashing from others.

This guy at my fencing club looks exactly how I imagined a Tolkien elf while reading the books. His hair and everything... I would post a picture, but he hasn't come in ages. Eh...didn't Tolkien describe them as long haired? Or maybe that's just me...But I thought it fit them anyway...
I think that long hair fits them as well. I can't remember whether Tolkien described them with long hair or not.. but it does seem to fit.

I believe Tolkien did describe the Elves with lon hair. I can't really picture an Elf with short hair.

Long hair does fit Elves very well.
There are fair amounts of guys with long hair. It isn't so typically anymore, but there are definetly a handful.

I like the elves. My thoughts concerning the ignorant dimwits who say the male elves are girly are as well.

Well one thing that I find really annoying is people who won't even bother reading the books because at first glance they look hard.
My generation is pathetically lazy.
And personally, I see elves with both long/short hair as fine. *nod*

Yeah, it's funny how some people are terrified to read long books! My friend loves LOTR, and she won't read the books because they're "too hard".

Oo, guilty! Three years ago my friend loaned me the books cuz I had to read them for school, and I was really impatient back then and I thought it was boring and I thought Frodo would never see Bilbo again so I gave up. Then I talked to him:
Friend: Do you like the lotr books?
Me: Wellllllllllll, no not really. I couldn't get into them.
Friend: WHAT?! (I can imagine why he was so indignant) Those books had me obsessed! I actually cried when Gandalf died!
Me: GANDALF DIES?!
Friend: Don't worry, he comes back to life.
Me: HE COMES BACK TO LIFE?!
Needless to say, I read those books and I'm glad I did! I'm a better person now.

I know! I have a one-volume paperback now, and I'm rereading it (for the fourth time) so I carry it around school. And I cannot count how many people have been like " BIG book! AAH run away!"

Yeah! Big books rule! It's so pathetic that some people in my grade still read little tiny 100 page or under books! We are in 9th grade, shouldn't we step up to books a bit more age appropriate?!

Exactly! Like LOTR! I love how I can look intelligent simply by carrying it around. (Not that that's WHY I carry it around of course... )
