Luthien heard their yells, and looked for a way to the horses almost frantically, "I can't!" She swiped at an orc, slicing his throat, and was surrounded by three more. If she stopped fighting for a moment, she would be cut down. Just then, she spotted a black horse galloping towards her.

Meleth, who had been cornered by a group of orcs up until that moment, frantically spurred Minuial toward Luthien and reached out. "Lothwen, there's no way you can take three!" she yelled frantically. "Luthien, grab my hand!"

Elessar watched the desperate scene unfold before him. There was no way the Elf would reach the others before the head Uruk got there. Releasing a loud battle cry, Elessar reared his horse and raced into the fray. Killing the vile creatures left and right, his anger was unmatched by their malice. Finally he reached the Elf, and placing his hand around it's waist, pulled the slender body onto his horse. Riding towards the others, he said, "You were almost killed back there, Elf." When the Elf turned, though, he realized it was a she-Elf, and more beautiful than any he had seen before. The rest of his words stuck to his tongue as they ran away from the battle.

Meleth watched, astonished, and wheeled Minuial around. "Who are you?" she snapped, urging Minuial in front of him and blocking his path. Her eyes were narrowed. "What are you doing here? Answer me!" She shot an orc without even looking away from the newcomer and notched another arrow. She noticed the orcs start to retreat and looked around for her companions.

Luthien gasped as she was grabbed and placed onto a horse in one quick movement. She was certainly grateful, and turned to thank her rescuer. Smiling, she said "Hannon le, stranger. I am most grateful to you." Just then, Meleth pulled in front of them, her eyes flashing angrily. Luth replied before the man could, "Please, Meleth, he rescued me from certain death. Can he introduce himself when we are out of danger?"

Meleth's eyes narrowed further but she pulled Minuial out of the way and looked around. "The orcs appear to be retreating," she remarked coldly.

Luth watched Meleth's reaction with interest, then looked in the direction she indicated. "I guess they are, but I would suggest being far away from here by nightfall." The extra horses had arrived, so she dismounted and climbed onto the bare back of a roan mare.

When every companion had chosen his own horse, Mirielurged Felarah to ride next to Elessar and stretched her arm for a handshake, while saying: "Welcome, my name is Miriel. Thank you for helping our friend out.. As you saw we had a shortage of horses."

Asfaloth had gotten grazed by something sharp and he was rearing in fright. Haldir jumped off the panicking horse and sang softly to him to calm him down. Then he went over to Asfaloth's hind leg and mended the graze at once.

He stood up and brushed himself off.

"Mae govannen, mellon nín," said Haldir, bowing to Elessar. "Hannon le an edraith ammen dad ennas."

"Meleth Elenwen" said Meleth, who was being more abrupt every minute. She was rather pale suddenly, and seemed to be having trouble staying upright in her saddle.

Elessar shook hands with Miriel and Lothwen, "I am Elessar Telradin of Gondor, sent by Lord Elrond to aid you in your quest." He acknowledged Haldir, saying, "Le suilon, gelir na thaed." Smiling, he looked at the Elf he rescued, "Are you alright, m'lady?"
