BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!

Ianto swung his arm around and lightly tapped the alarm clock on the off button. Ianto rolled out of bed, skipping over the cold tile floors until he was walking on carpet. Looking outside, he could see and hear rain. What else was new? A quick trip to the kitchen and he was making himself a warm breakfast. Eggs, waffles, and a bit of bacon on the side. Too bad it would be too cloudy to watch the sun rise. That was always somthing that Ianto looked forward too.
As he finished his breakfast, he glanced at the clock. Crud. He was running late. Quickly he changed from his jammies to his suit. He smiled. He wore suits so often that the entire team seemed to think he even wore them to bed. Well, the entire team excluding Jack, who had witnessed his sleepware firsthand.
The ride to work was uneventful. Traffic, rain, horrible songs on the radio-the norm. Ianto was glad when he pulled into his parking space. As he entered the hub he shook off his umbrella. Jack was there, of course, and so was Tosh. What surprised Ianto was Gwen. He glanced at his watch to be sure it was correct. Yes, she was here this early. That was odd. Gwen wasn't one to be an early riser. Still, he was glad to see her. He smiled at the group and went to make a pot of coffee. Gwen looked tired, and Jack almost always wanted some in the morning.

"Restless, huh?" Jack smirked. Gwen probably didn't mean it in quite that way, but she seemed upset, and Jack had his ways of dealing with that.

Coffee was one of them. It fixed everything. Or maybe it was just that Ianto always brought him coffee. In any case, though, it wasn't seeming like such a bad thing.

[insert Tosh typing on computer here]

"Jack!" She scolded him, hitting him playfully on the arm. "Hah, just haven't been sleeping that well, nightmares and that, you know? Nothing to worry about." Huh, since when had she become so good at lying?
She looked around, searching for the tea-boy who could always tell when coffee was needed. Looking back at Jack, she started to blush slightly, he was still looking at her.

Jack started to nod. He'd had his share of nightmares; more than he'd like to admit, really. But then again, he'd seen his fair share of bad things in his life. Gwen, on the other hand... Sure, disturbing things, but nothing really recent. Weevils, of course, but that was hardly anything new.

"Nightmares?" he asked, trying his best not to look too serious. "What sort of nightmares?"

Gwen sighed.

"They don't even make sense really, but they're always the same. I'm standing in a sort of, archway. Atleast that's what I think it is." A dull thud started behind her temples, as always happens when she thinks about her dreams.

"There are these, things, like ghosts and a man and a girl. You get the feeling they don't belong, the way they talk is so different from the way they dress. Well, the was she dresses. He's just standing there in some battered leather jacket but.." She realises she's rambling.

"Anyway, The girl runs out, with this other man and I feel like I'm rooted to the spot. But the wierd man with big ears and the leather jacket stays with me. I can smell gas filling the room. It's so real Jack, I can smell it, so strong and I feel like it's choking me. I look down at my hands and I'm holding a box of matches."

She looks down her hands, they're shaking now, grasping eachother.

"The strange man stops infront of me and all I hear is 'I'm sorry'. He runs out, I strike the match and that's when I wake up."

A man and a girl... Battered leather jacket... Weird man with big ears...

Jack felt the blood drain from his face. Unless it was a coincidence, Gwen had dreamt about the same two people that used to run through his dreams every night. But if time had taught Jack one thing, coincidences rarely were just coincidences.

"I'm sure it'll pass," he managed to say, straightening his shoulders and giving Gwen a tight-lipped smile.

She couldn't mean the Doctor, he told himself. There had to be plenty of strange men out there with big ears and battered leather jackets. She wouldn't be having dreams about that one.

But the more he tried to convince himself, the more he became certain that Gwen's dreams were anything but ordinary.

~*~

Tosh casually glanced up from her keyboard. Nothing unusual had popped up on the CCTV, nobody had posted anything odd on eBay, and the Rift hadn't done anything major overnight.

"I'm sure it'll pass," she heard Jack say. Was Gwen sick? She looked a little pale. Perhaps Owen would look her over when he got to work. Which was most likely not going to be for a while.

Carefully Ianto carried the four cups of steaming coffee to where Gwen, Jack, and Tosh were working.

"It'll pass." Ianto heard Jack say as he stepped into view.

"And a cup of coffee will help it, whatever "it" may be." Ianto replied, handing Gwen a cup with a smile. She still looked tired, like she had been working too hard or enduring sleepless nights. His eyes too, lingered on Jack's face. A pale, somewhat strained expression was etched onto his face. Was Ianto the only one getting adequate sleep? Leaving his musings until later, he reached to hand Tosh a cup, keeping one for himself. "Anything interesting?" He asked casually.

"Doesn't look like the Rift is up to much," Tosh said, smiling as Ianto passed her the cup of coffee. A quiet day in the Hub probably wouldn't be such a bad thing, given how tired Gwen looked. But then again, field work might wake them all up a bit.

~*~

Jack gratefully accepted the cup of coffee Ianto pressed into his hands, letting his fingers linger over the Welshman's for a second or two longer than was really necessary. His eyes, however, remained locked on Gwen.

"Okay, then," Jack said after hearing Tosh's reportings on the Rift. "If you need me, I'll be in my office."

He shouldn't be brooding, a voice in the back of his head was arguing as he walked into his secluded corner of the Hub. She'd simply had a dream that was bringing up his own memories of the Doctor and Rose.

So why was it bothering him so much?

Jack sighed and sank into his chair, staring at the blue striped mug in front of him. It was going to be a long day.

Gwen smiled and nodded. "I hope so, I'll be gratefull for a full night's sleep again." She yawned. "Ianto, your an absolute sweetheart!" She praised, as Ianto passed her a mug of liquid perfection. Half-heartedly she watched Jack climb the steps to his office, resting her head on one of her hands. 'Better get on with some paperwork.' She thought.
Her pen scribbled across the pages, and she took random sips of her coffee. Slowly her vision started to blur and she shook her head, trying to focus herself. It was no use though, and as if she'd taking a bottle full of sleeping pills, her head dropped into the crook of her arm. She didn't even register the sound of her coffee mug smashing as it it the hub floor, she was well on her way to the nightmares that waited in her subconscious.

Tosh, having exhausted her usual list of computer related tasks, was wondering if perhaps Gwen needed help with her paperwork. She looked absolutely exhausted; maybe she should take a nap.

She was considering saying something when the sound of breaking ceramic filled the air. Gwen had collapsed.

"Gwen?!" Tosh said, rushing over. "Gwen, are you alright?" She gently shook Gwen's shoulders, hoping it wasn't anything too serious.

Oh, where was Owen when they needed him?

((Shadowcat and CC, your banners match! Nice!)

Ianto wrestled with a stuck filing cabinet, growling with frustration as it refused to budge. These things looked to be older than Cardiff itself. He had talked to Jack about getting them replaced, but then Jack spat out some babble about budgets and the uniqueness of antiques. Ianto usually enjoyed antiques, given the condition that if they served a function they should be able to fulfill it. He gave one last tug, and thankfully the drawer popped open. As he put the files in alphabetical order, the shatter of ceramic echoed through the hub. "Oi," Ianto said lightly. "I like those mugs. If you can't hold onto them you're going to have to use styraphome." He turned to glance at the culprit, but his grin fadded when he saw Tosh shaking a collapsed Gwen's shoulders. "What happened?" Ianto asked Tosh, concern etched on his face

"****!"

The first syllable uttered by Doctor Owen Harper was, as usual, a swear word as he struggled to find his trousers. He found them halfway between his bed and his door...with a discarded bra. He ignored it as he went towards the kitchen. This new flat really needed some time to get used to. He quickly got dressed while scrambling to find his gun. He knew he should take better care of his gun, particularly when he was bringing other people in. If Jack knew what he was doing...well, never mind what Jack knew or didn't know. He finally found his gun, along with his car keys, under his leather jacket. He scrambled out of his flat, locking the door behind him.

Fifteen minutes, the Hub wheel rolled open, revealing a harassed Owen.

"Sorry, Jack, I'm late...there was this girl and I...what the hell is going on?"

They were gathered around someone. Tosh and Ianto, at least. So it was either Jack or Gwen. Jack, he didn't mind, since he'll come right up. Plus he wasn't the kind to suddenly collapse. Which left Gwen. Immediately, he snatched the medical kit on the wall and sprinted towards Gwen.

"She... she just collapsed," Tosh explained. "She was fine and then she dropped the coffee cup and... Gwen, can you hear me?"

Owen was suddenly there, shouting to Jack about some girl (Tosh wasn't jealous, she really wasn't, it was just Owen, he was like that, she wasn't jealous) before he ran off to get the medical kit.

"Gwen?" she said again, giving her shoulders another gentle shake.

"Let me in, Tosh," Owen asked, trying to put as much of a gentle tone as possible in this situation. While Owen had his disagreements with Gwen, well actually with everyone here, it was indisputable that he would stop at nothing to help them should any of them fall ill. He took out the torch and flashed into Gwen's pupil that Owen had to force open. Much to his relief, they dilated.

"Pupillary reflex still active, so no brain injury." He took out the stethoscope and measured her heart rate...and grimaced. "Heart rate's 60. Low but not too low. We need to stabilize her first. Tosh, could you get her legs."
