Well, for people in IB art, this is all very familiar. For those who aren't, I have to choose 12 pieces from my portfolio that will act as examples of my area of concentration and I have to be prepared to talk about them. SO, kind people of A-U, if you don't mind, ask questions and make comments on these pieces and I'll gladly discuss them with you.

And here there are:

A Glorious Day

A Starting Match

Beneath This Mask

Born Again

Identify The System

In A Glade

Last Man Standing

Lost In This City

Pick Up The Phone

Starting And Then Stopping

We're Not Scaremongering

Later, I'll write what I was thinking and my ideas behind the pieces. But not now..

I'd love to know your thoughts/inspiration behind the last piece! :)

I also really love the Last Man Standing. The text in the corner looks really nice.

And I'll be glad to explain.

A Glorious Day
Inspired by the particularly talented and charming photographer, Martin Stranka, this piece aims to show the dilemma that the man faces. Before him are two choices: to live (the burning building) or to die (the empty dark building) in the metaphorical sense as to not live out his life. The former appears to be dangerous but bright while the latter is secure but empty. And I feel like we have to face this choice whether or not to go out and live our life to the fullest.

A Starting Match
This was done during the 2008-2009 Greek riots over the death of Alexandros Grigoropoulos. And I wanted to show that people can build all of this resentment against the government and the system but they need something like a death or a war to truly spark it into a rebellion or riot.

Beneath This Mask
Done around the time of Guy Fawkes Day and as usual, I watched V for Vendetta. I've always wanted a Venetian mask like that and while I was thinking for an art project, I took that desire and V for Vendetta and decided to combine it together. The idea behind this is that in an anarchist society, your sense of individuality does not exist anymore. You've become part of a collective.

Born Again
This was inspired by the Dada movement. In essence, this is about the collapse of society. The drawing of the David is basically taken apart and corrupted. Man is no longer heroic or this ideal that we hold. We've become decadent, supported by machinery and pollution.

Identify The System
Inspired and influenced by Banksy, British graffiti artist, this is quite self-evident. In a consumerist society, we are just running in a giant wheel, not really going anywhere with our lives.

In A Glade
This expresses the idea of going back to nature. Some of us aren't as dependent on consumerism as others are and are free to separate themselves from the system and go to nature. A rather optimistic one.

Last Man Standing
This one describes a world where humanity ceases to exist. What would life be after we're gone? The message reads: Candles in the city scream and fight for life. Darkness swallows them whole as they fade out again. Last man living, please turn off the light. The photograph is two candles with broken glass surrounding them.

Lost In This City
This expresses the impact of globalization and its affects on indigenous cultures that are fragmented and swallowed by Western civilization.

Pick Up The Phone
This shows the idea of unrequited love in a sense. She is unable to leave the room she's in, trapped by her infatuation, while the phone is disconnected from the outside world.

Starting And Then Stopping
In our society, we are always moving, we can't stop and smell the roses. And when we stop, we get left behind by the fast pace city society.

We're Not Scaremongering
This was during the November elections. As some might know, I'm heavily aligned to the left and I watched the elections with great interest. This was to show how conservatives serve capitalism, consumerism, and corporatism, which leads to violation of the environment and human rights.

Any questions?
