Their site is http://www.lotr.com
Check out the characters, and tell me what you think!

Here's a little clip, gives me chills everytime: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaHRFlPC ... kmciac8_7w

I was re-listening to the soundtrack earlier this morning because I got struck with a random desire. This thread is very fitting!

I ended up seeing it twice during it's run in London, once with Laura Michelle Kelly (the lady in the Youtube vid/ Lucy/beggar woman in Sweeney Todd :) ) as Galadriel, and once 2 weeks before it closed with the replacement cast.

I LOOOOVED IT, it was by far the biggest spectacle I've seen on stage, and it was the best musical I'd seen until I got free tickets to Hairspray's opening Sunday (which unfortunately beat LotR). First time round was properly amazing, but second was more bitter sweet as it felt a bit like a dying show- the cast weren't as strong and it was sad because it was coming to an end- plus my seats weren't as good which ruined some of the illusions. The sheer scale of the production was so impressive, and the revolving stage was really the star, but the puppetry of Shelob and the Balrog was amazing. As was Gollum- that actor was super flexible!

My favourite song is 'The Cat and the Moon', though I loved the music that they played for the Balrog, which never made it onto the CD.

It annoys me that LotR's rights are in such a mess, otherwise I'd love for it to come back and tour!

It never went on tour. It Closed in July 2008 in London, and was meant to open in Germany, but never did.

On their site it says it would go on world tour in 2011... But I doubt it :P

What I would give to be able to see this show! Lembas, I am SO jealous of you. I've completely fallen in love with what I've seen on youtube. The music is phenomenal, and, as a performer myself, I am amazed at the staging of it, particularly the acrobatics in the Lothlorien song! And the puppetry, and how they do Treebeard, and... *sigh* I had trepidations when I first heard about the musical several years ago, and didn't venture out to listen to it until quite recently, which I regret. I wish the recording was more readily available in America, since I'm not quite sure how it would work to order it from the UK version of Amazon and have it shipped to the US.

My favorite song in the show...to be honest, they change quite frequently, but at the moment it's "Now and For Always" and "Lothlorien." I think a snippet from Lothlorien would be an amazing choice for an audition song, but there's no way I could find sheet music. I also love "Star of Earendil" and "The Road Goes On".

The stage itself was really the star of the show, if you've ever seen the Lion King musical, it was of a similar style, but much bigger and much more adventurous. Have you seen any footage of the orcs on the moonwalk stilts? they were pretty fierce! And the Nazgul were incredible too :)

Lothlorien would make a really great audition song Ari! I very nearly did it acapella for an audition at school, but settled on something more modern in the end (cause the show was High School Musical lol!). It's such an awesome belter :). I know for a fact that there was no sheet music made available (rights again >:() though I used to be part of a LotR musical and one of the members there got a few peeks at the score!

just found a ton of pics on my PC, so I'll upload them here later :)

I think I've seen a few clips of the Orcs, very briefly. Part of the set reminds me of the turntable that's used onstage in Les Miserables (Sadly, I haven't seen Lion King on Broadway)

XD Well, I can't really belt like that, so I'd just do it in head voice. The style would be perfect for an audition for something like The Light in the Piazza, I think. <3

What did you think of the costuming? I thought for the most part it was very creative, similar to the movie but still original. I'm not loving what they did with Arwen's makeup or Galadriel's hair, though, but those are my only complaints. Costumes are my favorite part of theatre, especially when I'm performing. ^_^

Costumes are soo my favourite part too, All my friends say band call is the best bit, but Costume Fitting totally is! I really liked Galadriel's costume and hair actually, The Canadian version looked like she had a tree growing out of her head, and the First London version had a long ponytail, which they eventually got rid of I guess cause of the cloths. I thought because she was 'Lady of gold' it was really fitting, I preferred the "armour" for Song Of Hope to the 'Boob separating' corset xD

Regarding make up all of the elves have a long stripe over their eyes, but only Legolas' was really noticeable on stage, so the sort of silvery flakes over Arwen's eye weren't noticeable, nor the gold coin on Boromir's forehead. The commando stripes that Aragorn has on his cheeks were weird though, as from a distance they made his eye-sockets look a bit strange and he looked like he was squinting for the whole show. Gandalf and Saruman also appeared to have two pairs of eyebrows because of their make up, which I really can't explain.

Other wise I thought the costumes and make up were pretty good, the people of Bree looked a bit piratical, but the hobbits were spot on and the elves were fab. And everyone's shoes were really clever as the Humans and elves were all in heels!

I guess I'm just a little iffy on Galadriel's hair. Sometimes I like the style, other times I think she looks too much like Medusa. XD I love her costume, though--the gold is so pretty! And every time I watch a clip of the Lothlorien scene, I am struck by how much fun Galadriel seems to be having swinging around in the air, particularly after the line "And you, my child, will know no harm enfolded in my arms." Watch her face, she just looks so serene. The whole staging of the scene with all the acrobatics is just incredible.

Yeah, the main problem I have with Arwen's makeup is her eyebrows--Arwen's eyebrow situation makes her look permanently surprised. XD I hadn't noticed Gandalf's or Saruman's eyebrows, though! I do like the sparklies on both Arwen and Galadriel's faces, though. I played a fairy in A Midsummer Night's Dream about five years ago and we had very similar makeup (pointy ears, too, which SEEMED like fun, but just as the cast of LotR discovered, they are actually a huge annoyance) and the glitter always refused to wash off.

I never noticed how piratey the Bree-folk look! XD I was too focused on the awesome dancing for the most part (how do they DO that?!), although one thing that did catch my eye were their brightly-colored galoshes, and the stripy stockings some of the girls were wearing, particularly during the clips on youtube when there's multiple close-ups on people's legs for some reason.

What's your opinion of the Elvish lyrics of the show being in Quenya? I know lots of people were upset that it wasn't Sindarin, but I don't mind. Quenya is beautiful, and the reason the lyricist chose it over Sindarin was that Tolkien developed Quenya a lot more, I think.

I see what you mean about the Medusa look lol! I also agree that it is a pretty killer entrance, though I can remember thinking when LotR was on, all the Leading Ladies have to fly now what with Wicked and Mary Poppins too xD!

Whilst the elvish worked in the show, and I wasn't too worried about it not being sindarin- but the translations themselves are very much pigeon elvish (not that I'm an expert)- it was one of the biggest disappointments when I got the OST because reading the lyrics it was obvious that they'd just looked at the Names Appendices in the Silmarillion rather than done it properly. Like Ea and Iluvatar are used in 'Saruman' to 'mean' things, whereas after reading the Silm, I personally felt that it was strange using names as words, it was like Saying 'oh that Legolas in that tree is very green today'. But then I suppose with how large that appendices is it meant that they had more words to fit to the tune compared to sindarin
