Hey all!
My sis gave me a Christmas present last year of a free dress. (Well actually it's not free cause I have to buy everything, but she's making it, since I am really bad at sewing and she likes it.)

Anyways, I bought this pattern: http://www.ebay.com/itm/MEDIEVAL-DRESS- ... 5f77f45bb4

And want to do dress b.
(Only with different colors, like they use in the movie)

But I'm not sure what kind of fabric to use.
I don't want to use silk cause it's easy to rip... I wouldn't ever wear it cause I wouldn't want to break it.

I'm thinking of using suede(I think that's how you spell it) for the vest part... but what should I use for the skirt and sleeves?

I need something cheap-ish... I only have 40 bucks left after buying the pattern.

Got any ideas?? Has anyone made a lotr dress before?

HA! 40 bucks. Yeah like that worked.

I found some cream colored stuff that's not too see through, and it's nice and flowy but not too shiny. It wasn't too much but it still cost FIFTY bucks!!! For 9 yards... I don't know if that's a good price or not.

So of course mom had to help pay for it... and with the gold trim and suede stuff it cost almost a hundred bucks altogether!!!

Sheesh! How did Eowyn afford it?!?! Oh yeah... she's the king's niece.

Well now if the pattern would get here... lil sis is quite anxious to start it! It would be cool if she got it done by Friday(I'm totally Not expecting her to... it looks quite complicated!)... then I could get pics taken in it. (We're going over to a friend's house who is a professional photographer since we haven't gotten pics done for a long time) :P

I hope it works out. I'd be so mad(and mom would be even madder, lil sis probably very frustrated!!!) if it got all messed up.

Man, this part of the forum just isn't active, other than the games.
That's pretty much all the misc lotr forum is!! Games! :P I like games though.

That's gorgeous! It may have been terribly expensive, but it sounds like it'll be worth it! (And remember, you're getting free labor from your sister. ;)) What color is the suede part?

I'd really love to learn to sew dresses, mostly because I love old fashioned clothes and would probably go crazy designing them. :D
I haven't a clue where to start, though. :P

Totally post pictures when it's finished though, especially if you get to do a professional photo shoot!

Yep I totally will!
The suede is brown.

It's a good thing my sis is sewing it... I barely have any sewing experience. And would probably mess up horribly. I sewed a simple dress once.... it was really boring. My sis was also sewing a dress about the same and she really liked it.
That's good... I can get her to sew me stuff! :P
Of course I sometimes sew stuff by hand that I don't want anyone to know about(like experiments :P)(in secret of course)... lol.

Grr!!! The person Didn't ship the pattern!!! I am SO mad!
How hard is it to put a little pattern in an envelope and send it???
I'm hoping they did send it and ebay just forgot to send the email... but I doubt it.

lol. Well once the pattern gets here, it probably won't be too long till she finishes it... she made herself a Victorian style dress in about a week.

Oh, that dress pattern is gorgeous! I can't wait to see the finished product! If I had a LotR-style dress I would go crazy with photoshoots all the time. ^_^

hehe :P
she's almost done with the dress part... then she has to do the sleeves and... er.... what do you call that? vest thing? lol.
I was planning on using it in the movie we're doing but it is Way too expensive and delicate. It rips too easily!!!!!
my friends also want me to use my hadhafang replica in the movie!!! it Is kinda sharp! are they crazy!?!??! and, I wouldn't ruin my lotr sword!!! :P We can use wooden swords and paint them silver, and add in the metal clanging sound later. I don't care what they say.... if they want to save up to buy a cool sword and then ruin it just for a little home-made movie, it's fine with me.

I can't wait till she gets the dress done.... :P

Got a pic!!!! :D
http://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hph ... 2435_n.jpg (it says it's too big so you'll have to use the link) :P
It's not all the way done, the right sleeve is just pinned on, and the back is totally unfinished.
I can't wait till it's done!!! I love the sleeves!! They're so long and pretty! And they can be shortened up like Eowyn has it, or if I'm in church and it's freezing cold like usual I can let them down  hehehe

So how's it look? My sis is doing a good job, right? :)

It's gorgeous! I love the style of the bodice and sleeves. I also like how it looks like a combination of something Arwen would wear (the style) and something Eowyn would wear (the colors just scream Rohan to me). And you look very happy that the dress is done! :)
