Does anyone know what actually happened to thorin's dad? I know in the film they dunno if he was captured or killed, and its been a really long time since I've read the book so I can't remember if it mentioned him or not?

As I recall Thráin also tried to reclaim Erebor, so he was not killed in the battle at Moria. During his journey to the Lonely Mountain he was captured by servants of the Necromancer/Sauron, and held captive in the dungeons of Dol Guldur. Gandalf visited him there once, and during that meeting Thráin gave the map and key of Erebor to Gandalf, who in turn would pass it on to Thorin. Shortly thereafter Thráin died.

Just to add, by the time Gandalf found Thráin he's pretty much forgotten everything, including his own name, all he could tell Gandalf was that the map had to go to his son. Many years later, Gandalf meet Thorin in Bree and while talking to him Gandalf figured out that he was the son of the dwarf he'd found in Dol Guldur. At least, I'm pretty sure that's what happened.

And many other things.

But after Aragorn died, aged 210, she left Gondor and wandered in Lothlórien (all the Elves had left by that time). She died a year after Aragorn at Cerin Amroth. Which is a place in Lothlórien where Aragorn and Arwen had promised themselves to each other. She died in the 121st year of the Fourth Age and she was 2,901 years old.

We may still get some stuff on Thrain in the second movie, relating to the dungeons of the necromancer (as that is where Gandalf found him), but it is unlikely in my opinion. The only mention they gave him in the movie was during Balin's speech: "Thrain, Thorin's father, was driven mad by grief. He went missing, taken prisoner or killed; we did not know."
And yes, Arwen totally died ("choice of Luthien" and all).

I believe there will be scenes of Gandalf and Thráin on Dol Guldur in Desolation Of Smaug
