If you two are referring to Solo, I ABSOLUTELY agree! I loved the movie!
I was hesitant about it at first, because I had heard a lot of negative feedback... and I didn't particularly like the actor they chose for Han. To his credit, though, he played the part very well.
All in all, I was pleased not to find a single thing that would have altered any established Star Wars lore. (Pre- disney OR post Disney)
My guess as to why they have done better is partially because they are set inside of the old movies. I think this causes them to HAVE to stick closer towards the feel and lore of the original trilogy. Just my theory, though.
There were so many things about this movie that I liked.... things that incorporated and used bits of starwars lore that I already knew. Even simple things like the addition of the Terras Kassi martial arts and Vos using the vibro knucklers. Loved that! I had a Terras Kassi Master on the starwars Galaxies game way back when it released (Have another on the emulator now) and they are so much fun to play... it was cool seeing it added into the movie.
That and seeing how Chewy and Han meet. Seeing Han's early life. It makes him easier to relate to as a character for me. You understand why he is the way he is in episodes 4, 5, and 6. At least I think it helps in that.
That and the plot seemed to be very well done. There were several things I expected that didn't happen (in a good way, as in the plot was not predictable) Then there were several things that did happen that I never saw coming. I like that.
I also loved all the characters. Even the bad guy, though he was bad, he made a great bad guy. lol So anywhoo... I could go on, but I won't type out too much more.
