The list goes on indeed. It is hard to choose just a few. I think thatbis one of the things that makes LOTR so memorable because it had not just a few likeable characters but an entire cast.

I have a strong thing with Galadriel. I love how Cate Blanchett played her. She's so pretty. So motherly in nature.

Motherly is a good adjective for her. I like Galadriel, but not as much as some other characters. I still have misgivings about her whole telepathy thing. It can be really cool like when she sensed that Aragorn was missing his Dunadain buddies and sent them. However, it can also be really uncomfortable knowing that she can see pretty much everything in your mind however weird or horrible. Like imagine playing poker with her.....

Agreed, motherly is a good ay to describe her.
Lol playing poker with her would be a bad idea I think! Haha. But yes, I get your point. It would be rather disconcerting.

I think Galadriel is my favourite too, because she's so wise and could give me advice. Just the fact that she's born and raised in Valinor just gives her the extra points to be a fave. Galadriel also knew Melian in the first age so..

My favourite character in LotR is a minor character...
Halbarad. The other thirty Rangers that rode south to meet Aragorn are up there too, mainly because of all my fanfics I've written based on those un-named guys.
Of the main characters, I've always had a 'thing' for Galadriel. She is my favouritist elf.
I liked Eowyn as well. Her tale had a realistic feeling about it.
Faramir with his deep thinking was a good character, as was Aragorn.
Other Elves? Elladan and Elrohir.
So.... I spread it about some.

Eowyn is also very good character. Very belivable. She's also a very strong in her own way, so that's why I like her too. This is the hardest part of picking favourites: you just have to pick one and that's it.

My favourite character is Samwise Gamgee. Of all the characters he was the only one more or less conscripted into the quest because he was listening at the window. The other characters are drawn in because they volunteer for a variety of reasons. His unassuming manner, loyalty, and bravery in the face of odds he never dreamt he'd face, with courage he didn't know he possessed, is the embodiment of what a "hero" is, at least to me.
