I'm a huge IM fan, I have all their albums and I've seen them 5 times live.
Any Maiden fan around?

i know they arent power metal but they are the fathers of power metal. Especially with their singing. The singing is very power metalish.

you like good music. I've only heard a little bit of Angra but i absolutely LOVE what i have heard. If you like Helloween then you should check out Masterplan. They've got a couple of guys from Helloween in there. Dream Theater owns. Yay for prog metal.

The way I look at Maiden is they're sort of a cross-over. Yes they are
Heavy Metal as they were part of the NWOBHM..but more recently they have been embraced as part of the Power Metal scene..at least they are with most people I know. Bruce vocals as Melkorpwns was saying makes that transition easier.
They inspired many, many bands in the Power Metal scene, so yes they are sort of the Father Figures of the sub-genre.
Well..that's my take on it anyways.

As some of you might know, I am absolutely no metal fan, but whenever I feel proud whenever I actually know something about it!! lol
I've got Run to the Hills and Fear of the Dark on my mp3 player. They are the only songs I know and I actually like them!
(now some of you will tell me that those songs aren't the real thing or that they are way too mainstream for what Iron Maiden usually represents, and I will be confirmed in my belief that I'm forever doomed to pop music, lol)

Fear of the Dark =
One of their best songs methinks.

Agreed.
Fear of the Dark is one of there best songs. Especially the live version from Donnington. In fact any version of it live kicks bum, the crowd makes that song every time.
