Well, once my friend asked "if the short guy was gandalf" (refering to Frodo) Twas quite funny considering she'd seen RotK. : )

When I asked my friend (who slept during FOTR AND TTT AND ROTK) if she even understood the story, she said that they had to find the ring...

My mom asked "Who's Gollum?" :duh: He kind of stands out, don't you think? (she's seen all three movies)

The funnyest thing that someone said about LotR were the names my brother gave to the characters.
I guess he found their names too strange to remember so he calls Eowyn "the ho*ny rider girl with the sword", Faramir "the son of that crazy dude", and Eomer "that guy that doesn't talk much, just kicks as*". (sorry about the language)

And he named Sam "the fat Hobbit" at the begining of FotR. He didn't understand why that made me laugh so much.

Heheh, well, my sister and I went to see Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, and before the movie started, the screen was flashing different bits of movie trivia, and one was about how Andy Serkis studied gorillas in Africa to play King Kong (or something like that!), and it said in parentheses "Serkis played Gollum in Lord of the Rings."

So we're listening to the teeny-bopper girls behind us, and one goes:

"Gollum was the good guy, right?"

Two minutes later:

"Are they done making the Lord of the Rings movies?"

I had a hard time keeping a straight face after that...

A friend of mine had this problem with the names either, so one day instead of saying "Celeborn", she said "Cebolon" which is similar to "big onion" in portuguese (we're brazilian).
And my mom knew that I have already read the book, so she saw the movies asking me all the time "Is he going to die?" , "Is she going to die?".. grrrrrr.
:)

I got another one at lunch today. I actually walked up in the middle of the conversation, so I didn't hear it all, but what I heard was, "Everybody in Lord of the Rings has such gorgeous eyes. Who's the one guy with the really pretty blue eyes? I think it was Elijah Wood...he's in Lord of the Rings, right?"
It was just one of those :duh: moments. I had to bite my tongue to keep from saying anything.

I watched LOTR with my little brother, he is 6 years old. And now he describes Eomer as: That horse-man with the red harnass who throws a spear through the Elephant-Man...

And Legolas is called: the Bow-and-Arrow man..

My little sister called Legolas: He with the long yellow hair and Aragorn was called a hairy man, and she didn't like him because he is kissing Arwen in the movies. And than she said: 'Doesn't that tickle for the princess in the blue dress, I mean, that beard of the hairy man must be not nice!!

My parents have seen all the LOTR movies at least twice and whilte watching TTT, my Mum was like, "Is the blonde king the dirty king's father? What happened to the demented king? Did Ian Mckellen kill him?" (she was referring to Theoden as the blonde king, Aragorn as the dirty king, Theoden in the control and influence of Grima and Saruman and Ian Mckellen as Gandalf..... obviously)

When I had to retell LotR to my brother, who also had a hard time remembering most names, especially the ones of the hobbits, i had to call them by other names. Merry was for example- "The smarter one of the two hobbits". Ive forgotten most of them by now...
