I reading it right now, and I can't seem to stop! I love some of his ideas and I like how it teaches you history through a fast-action, gripping book.

i finished the book!!! like a week ago and i ddnt realy get to post u til now. i started to cry at the end. i have no clue why but i started crying almost hysterically. i was also crying at the part where he was talking about walt disney. disney movies was the one thing i cared about the most when i was younger. and to read that all his movies had secret messages in them about the grail was upsetting for some reason. i felt decieved

i love the da vinci code and i enjoyed reading it so much

I agree with you Elanor. I enjoyed reading it, because it was very intense, exciting, and entertaining, but nonetheless not a wonderful book in a literary sense. While I liked the main characters, I never felt particularly connected to them, especially on an emotional level. It was kind of like a thriller-action movie in that way. I wouldn't count it as one of my favorite books... not even in the top 50. I'm actually kind of suprised Dan Brown hasn't cranked out 12 more books since this one, because The DaVinci Code reminded me too much of a John Grisham, Michael Crichton, etc book-- all excitement and little substance (no offense to these authors at all- their books are entertaining, just not amazing) I don't think it is fact, however the theories presented are interesting... but I believe they are only theories. Okay. Not getting into that debate here.

I sort of agree with both of you(Elanor and Bellethiel) I love his book but his characters arent deep enough. I love the whole plot thing but the characters seem to take little time to figure out these hard to do puzzles. And i think that the girl...Sophia or w/e her name was needed a bigger part, mainly becuase what the book is trying to achieve...if that makes any sense.

The focus and purpose of this book is the Holy Grail and the whole Da Vinci conspiracy - not Robert Langdon as a person. I wasn't reading this book to indulge in characters - I read it for the mystery and conspiracy theory. But maybe that was just me?

Persnally i went into it thinking that his characters would be just as deep and fascinating as his plot. Wrong idea. You are right ErulissëEnethNîn, you should read this book for the mystery and conspiracy part, the characters just sort of play along.

Since the Holy Grail is a woman i still think that the girl should of played a bigger part.

^ yeah I see your point! Personally I was more interested in Langdon's point of view than Sophie's though so I wasn't really missing her lack of spotlight in the book

i agree with you i didnt really think about the characters lacking diversity i was just reading the davinci code for the plot. I think becasue the plot is so strong Dan thought there was no need to have strong characters as well

i still think you need strong characters for a strong plot.

I think it really depends what you're looking for in a story. I prefere more than a strong plot and would give that up over good characters.That's probably why I'm not usually that keen on thrillers or crime novels and am even reading far less fantasy than I used to. Though I'm not saying that all these kind of books don't have good characters just it seems like a great proportion don't.

Oooh! It's been named?! That's SO cool! I knew about the 3rd Langdon book, but I didn't know it was named yet! I'm SO excited! Should be quite gripping. I think his Robert Langdon books are the best.
In terms of characters and their emotions in Angels & Demons and The DaVinci Code, I found that the characters were a lot deeper and emotionally involved in The DaVinci Code. Does that make sense? It seemed that Langdon was more emotionally connected to this story than in Angels & Demons.
But the plot/story line in both were SO amazing.
Man, can't WAIT for the 3rd one to come out!

About feelings, I thin kthat Robert ws just bewildered and confused in the AaD, ao he didn't really let his feeling show, and the fact that thers an albino assasin out to kill you must have made him pretty emotional in DVC!
