Vanya was still nervous. Lothelen mounted the mare and stroked her neck, bending close to the horse's mane and whispering calming words in elvish. Suddenly, the ringing of a harsh horn cut through the woods. Lothelen drew her elven blade halfway from its sheath. It glittered with a shimmering white light, signaling that orcs were close. Sitting straighter in her saddle, Lothelen took out her bow and brought an arrow to the string. She had been in a battle before and was prepared to fight. But Vanya had not, and could not stand the tension. Lothelen's mare bolted, shooting across the lake, just as the first orcs apeared in between the trees. The water splashed around Vanya's hoofs, sending up foaming jets of water like you would see in a waterfall. Lothelen's body sank under the water as Vanya started to swim until only her shoulders, neck and head could be seen. Gritting her teeth, Lothlen waited for her horse to finish crossing the lake.

Whalt sat still on his horse when the woman's horse bolted. He held tight his horse wanted to run but he told her not to so she stayed put. He dipped down and picked up his arrow and knocked the arrow yet again shot it off into the distance. the arrow had found a mark.

"Yrch! Curse their foul feet in the clean water of Nimrodel!" Lasimlad swore. He again raised his bow, but not towards the women. Instead he aimed toward the Orcrim. He was able to understand what Luvamirë thought on a primal level, so he was able to decipher the whereabouts of the host. He loosed his arrow before swinging into the tree.
