I love His Dark Materials!! Hmmm... my daemon... I think it would either be like a tiger or leopard or otherwise some sort of a bird. Not quite sure. *shrugs*

I'm sure you'll really enjoy it. (Especially since you obviously love LotR :-D ) Let us all know how you like them.

My daemon would probably be a snake. I've only read the Golden Compass, in the middle of it actually.

Oh, I loved these books when I read them! I'm afraid I can't say a single thing about them, though, because I've not read them in agessss....I really have a list of books I'm supposed to read for people on here...I just keep forgetting where I put it. :D

I just finished reading the Golden Compass today! Now I can't wait to get my hands on The Subtle Knife. There's still so many unanswered questions...

My daemon would probably be an eagle, I think. Majestic and noble, but fierce if need be.

I LOVE this series!! :) :) I read it about 2 years ago, then I re-read the books over Christmas :D I think my favorite book was probably The Golden Compass. The Amber Spyglass's ending just upset me too much. Otherwise that would be my favorite :P If I had a daemon, it would probably be some kind of dog. Not because I want to be a servant :P, but because I LOVE dogs. Maybe a wolf....:)

Hearing so many good things about these books, I decided to read them.

I'm on the Golden Compass and well...

Am I the only one finding it hard to get into? I mean, I know it starts out (kinda sorta) right in the action, but I wasn't drawn in at all. Maybe it's because I'm confused about all the terms they use. I don't know...
Possibly any tips or anything of the sort?

What bit are you at Gwen? I think you might like it better once they set off for the north. I don't remember struggling to get into it but it was about 8 years ago that I first read it so I can't be sure.

Here's a few meaings of some of the words they use, let me know if there's others you're not sure about:

Alethiometer - Symbol reader that tells you the truth

Aurora Borealis/ Northern Lights - the lights you can see in the sky in the north

Daemon - A person's soul which is in the shape of an animal. Children's can change shape but adults' can't

Panserbjørne - Armored polar Bear

Obligation Board/ Gobblers - Something which is taking children away

Gyptians - A type of Gypsy who travel in canal boats

^Ohhh, thank you so much Elanor!

I'm pretty much at the beginning when she's (I forgot her name at the moment) listening to the talk within the wardrobe.

No problem :)

Don't worry about not understanding what's they're talking about at the moment then. Lyra doesn't understand it either and it all gets explained later.

Ok, yeah, I kind of figured that. A lot of books leave you in the dark for a while.

I got to say I love this series. Philip Pullman is a fantastic writer. But he has one downfall.
He can't write a good battle scene. Which is a real shame because the rest of the story is amazing. The build up through the first two books, and the beginning of the third is fantastic, and I loved reading it. But the battle at the end was, to be quite frank, a let down. But a great tale nonetheless.
